FWIW, I've parked in the PO parking lot many times with a rifle visible in the rear window rack of my pickup.

I don't know if we're unique because the post office in little old Prospect Heights, Il. population 17,000+-.has metal detectors inside the lobby.. In order to approach the counter (6 locations,only 2 ever manned) you must pass through the detecter.
