Do yourself a favor, and heck do a friend a favor, buy two of each. Unintended Consequences is up there next to the Bible.

With these and other works, we are seeing the
re-emergence of revolutionary literature. There must
be a societal reason for their market success. It's
okay, they're just fiction. :D

4-19.......stuff happens......this day in history

Bob Lee....who??

I don't see it posted above, so I'll mention that Matt Bracken is a Member here, too. Travis McGee's posts are well worth reading.

He posts here occasionally, and then people start haranguing him to get back to work on the next book. :D

I haven't read any of these. Both my Father-in-Law and I are avid readers. I'll grab a set for myself and one for him as well.

Thanks for the tip! Looking forward to a good read!

There are quite a few "gun fiction writers" who are also bloggers and gun forum members.

Orson Scott Card's "Empire" is sort of in the same vein, but somewhat pulpy in a science fiction sort of way (at least compared to Ender's Game). Still highly recommended.

The Woodshed it is. I'd rather go to Room101 than Burley.

Don't forget Devonai, (David Kantrowicz) kiddies. He has two science fiction books out. Reckless Faith and The Tarantula Nebula Excellent stories.

Matt Bracken's books are intense. Hard to put down. I've got autographed copies of all four books, by both authors. Both are very nice guys, and valued members of THR.

Book list

Is there a list of books/authors that THR members recommend? Reading through pages of posts to find the name of a book can be cumbersome. Having the list maintained in the first post would be helpful.

I've read UC, but my small town library doesn't carry many of the other books listed on THR. I hate to save my pennies to purchase a book when there are so many other things I'm trying to save my pennies for - Ammo, Guns, Training (all x2 since my wife needs to have the same things.)

Cogster, if you search under the keyword "books" (titles only), you'll find a bunch of threads on books. Should be a good start.

I have a problem recommending some of these books to my wife, mother, and others due to the strong sexual content. The books are great! I wish there were PG versions available. I would have my kids watch the Penn and Teller video posted the other day if it was not for the language.

I just finished Card's book myself. But keep in mind, if you are paying for the books that Card is anti-gun. (In spite of the fact that the heros of Empire trapse around NYC with unregistered full-autos.) Unfortunately for me, Card is my favorite author, but I am not giving any more of my money to support him. So it's the library or not at all for Card's books.

I'll have to read "Enemies" as well - haven't seen it anywhere.

Something interesting I found this morning - you guys may have heard of Col Dave Grossman, the man who wrote "On Killing: The Psychological Cost of Learning to Kill in War and Society" and "On Combat" (both highly recommended, by the way). He wrote a sci-fi saga called "The Two-Space War" which I'm going to buy - here's the blurb:

All of the information that Col. Grossman writes about and teaches in his military and law enforcement training sessions has been included in his military science fiction books. OODA Loop, front sight theory, auditory exclusion, PTSD, critical incident debriefings and much more, are now wrapped into an exciting book. This may be the first time any fiction book has ever talked about what combat is REALLY like!

Any public library ( even the tiny ones) will order from some other Library the books you want to read. They did it very nicely. I asked for a Torah and they got it for me in no time. Inter library borrowing is a service they provide.

I agree UC in a PG version (it really wouldn't take much) SHOULD be required reading in High School. I realize it is tamer then much in movies/TV they see but that does NOT change things. You could still use sex to get folks in private just not so graphic and cut lots (you would have to cut to keep movie under 3 hrs)
