Hello, i recently picked up a 1905 enfield smle. All the serials match, it says I*** i assume mark one, Its an LSA, it has the grenade launcher stamp and sight on it. Bore cleaned up good IMO, some very fine pitting. Wondering if its rare or just another common enfield.

I dont think its rare, but nowadays any thing is possible.you need a better site than this some one who is expert at that and frankly no one here is except jim Keenan.

"...Its an LSA..." LSA is London Small Arms CO(1888 to 1926). They made around 500,000 Lee-Enfields. Fewer than any other maker except SSA and NRF. So it is somewhat rare. There as one on AuctionArms that sold for $750 with most of the finish worn off. That's more than most No. 1's sell for.
Not many 1905 vintage No. 1's around. It have the magazine cut off?
"...says I***..." Mk I***? The 'stars' indicate modifications that did not warrant a change of Mark. Mostly to make manufacturing easier, but a change if sight, for example, would get a 'star'. The 'stars' are the same idea as the letter and number in a U.S. rifle's nomenclature. As in M1903, M1903A1, etc.
The '1905' is the year your rifle was made.
Go here and rummage around. http://enfieldrifles.profusehost.net/main.htm
