As an aside, use quality lithium batteries. Cheap 123's you find for really low prices in bulk sometimes do not have PTC protection and are much more prone to venting than batteries with PTC. Take care to also make sure if you are using more than one that they are matched in voltage.

Yup-there are still too many folks trying to save a penny by trying to get the absolute lowest price possible for batteries.
I tell folks the days of tossing cheap flashlights that are ruined by leaking batteries are looooong gone-ain't nuttin' disposable 'bout all these new pricey optics and flashlights-don't know that I've ever taken a battery maker up on his warranty, but if they leak in my new pricey high-tech toys they will definitely be hearing from me!
In the past, iff'n leakers destroyed cheap flashlights, :(
These days, iff'n some of these penny pinchers open up their EOTech to find their slightly cheaper batteries crapped inside their optic, :banghead: :fire: :cuss:

My 557 has Energizer Ultimate Lithiums-last ones I bought had a use by date of 2024! That's the longest shelf life I've seen on a battery.
My latest alkalines have a 7 year use by date-I just replaced a relative's garage door opener and smoke detector with Energizer 9v Lithiums, which have a 10 year use by date (like CR123s).

Wonder what's different with the Ultimate Lithiums vs 'regular' Lithiums?
The Ultimates seem to have 'bout a 4 year longer life rating-the Advanced Lithium Energizers I think have a 10 year use by date, like the CR123 and 9v Lithium.

And a slight heads up for anyone needing to restock their battery box-WalMart has a 20 pack of AA Alkaline Energizers ($9.97) with a small, black $ off booklet stuck in the center of the blister pack (you may have to dig through 'em to find ones with the $ off booklet).
The flyer inside is good 'til 6/2011, and has $3 off coupon on Ultimate Lithiums, $2 off on Advanced Lithiums, $1 off next Alkaline multi-pack purchase.
There are other coupons for stuff like headlamps etc, but the only ones I used were the Alkaline, Lithium, and Ultimate Lithium coupons.

WalMart's 'bout as cheap as anybody I can find on Ultimate Lithiums etc-with the coupon, doubly so!

Unit would not come on

Basically the unit started eating batteries and then would
Not come on. Returned to manufacturer and they repaired very quickly. No problems from that point.

Great Company!

The only problem I had with a Bushnell Holo Sight was when I opened up my safe and the firearm I had it mounted to fell out breaking the frame and lens.
After a call to EoTech explaining to what happened and too see if the unit could be fixed they just said to “send it in”.
Well with in a week I received the new sight and upon opening up the box they sent an upgraded model, (forgot the model number) one the aluminum frame and upgraded/better controls.

This instance they didn’t just stand behind their product but also stood behind a customer who had an unfortunate occurrence.

They’ve got a customer for life!

You sent a Bushnell Holo sight to EoTech?

Sure did!

Realizing Bushnell doesn’t produce the goods they market. I figured to get the best results going right to the source/manufacturer and didn’t even bother calling Bushnell after my initial call to EoTech.

Can't vote as none of the choices reflects where I am at (figuring out what to do)

Mine is around two years old, and is having problems (or I am crazy).

Ok when I start, fire some rounds and it gets dimmer, and will not go up notches to bright. When I get home it works normally.

Suspect the battery contact situation. I use Lithium's (after the supplied Alks failed). Batteries hold up good, I keep a spare set in the stock, tested both sets with digital meter and they are fully up to snuff.

Will look at contacts, if cannot solve off to Eotech. As a sample of one, I am disappointed. As a sub set of huge amount of data, unusual, but still disappointing to be the one.

And yes, I try to remember to turn it off when done shooting. Probably less than 500 rounds with it on top (I shoot a lot with scope, put it back on, do a test as its the main sight for keeping at home.

Its certainly lives up to its billing as exceptionally good function. I would like better features (auto on, bright setting per conditions - and it would seem for the price it could be done though I understand the trad off between features and simplicity.

I've never had a problem with surefire batteries... Considering most other brands run about $10 for two, and the surefires are $1.75 each, I've never really thought about anything else.

WalMart sells Energizers for about $5 apiece, mainly because they're in the photo section. Last time I was in Lowes, they had a Surefire 2-pack for under $5, mainly because they were in the flashlight section-everybody prices according to the market they think they're serving.

I regularly get Streamlight and Energizers for $1.30/$1.35 apiece over the 'Net, but have to order in bulk for free shipping-I just sell the extras to friends, who could always use some. A number of police supply houses I visit also sell 'em for under $2 apiece (again, priced according to the market served).

From 'Net chatter, it sounds like the majority of name brand CR123s are made by Panasonic in their U.S. factory.

But I stll see folks trying to save an extra few pennies by going with no-name brands.

No problems with my AA model, but eventually sold it and bought an Aimpoint. I never could get used to the reticle...

I've had teh N battery version and had no issues with it. We also have about 100 of the AA battery models where I work. These get carried every day on our person, everywhere we go. They get smashed off metal door casings, in and out of all sorts of vehilcles, picked up and put down in rifle racks, etc. They are in and out of hot and cold, carried in the rain, snowed on. Very few have failed over the years.
I can't give a specific number right now but it easily could be counted on 1 hand.

You know, I was going to post very much the same thing. I loved my ET but when the batteries melted down to a destructive level - my enthusiasm waned significantly. Of course, I should have paid more attention but none of my other optics had ever done that before while sitting in the safe. I was able to baking- sodafie most of it but the unit now will not completely weather seal so what's the point?

So yeah, great, I can shoot a hole in the lens and still use it like everyone's demo device but DON'T leave the batteries in it? I'll pass.

I don't know if its a defect but i've had two eotech 511's that sucked down battery power in no time and were difficult to see in full sun light even at full power. I'll stick with Aimpoint.

I own two now if that tells you any thing!

They are excellent sights especially for CQB.

I don't have any duty use on mine yet (still in school) but my brother uses his every day as a patrol rifle optic.

Just sold my only EoTech, an XPS2-2. I never really was an EoTech fan, but the XPS made more of a believer out of me. In the end I preferred the battery life, ruggedness, simple dot and quick rotary brightness adjustment of the Aimpoints.

I had no real problems with the sight, with the exception of two issues: the buttons were a little too spongy and sometimes a quick push didn't work to turn on the optic. A very deliberate, focused and firm push was required. The only other issue was that it the battery cap was tightened down too hard it would cause indentations on the contacts of the battery, that over time, would require the battery compartment to be opened up and the battery repositioned for a more consistent contact without too much tension. Hopefully that makes sense.

On a positive note, the 2-dot reticle was easier for me to use because without my glasses, the two dots read as a single line. Battery life for my XPS2-2 was verified at close to 600 hours through my own tests.

For various reasons already mentioned, I'm an Aimpoint guy through and through, but the XPS is also a very good optic in my opinion. It just has its quirks...
