Well...this is like a 9mm vs .45 debate at times. Depends who you ask.
I run an EOTech (553) on my issue M16A4, and love it. WAY better than the Aimpoint, for me. The Aimpoint has a battery life benefit, certainly, but I prefer the EOTech reticle and that it takes the same batteries as my Surefire (but only the 553 does this, as far as I know).
I've heard guys swear by the Aimpoint. Try both if you can.
well i prefer the eo-tech i have used both while being in the military and in personal uses alot. i have the eotech on my personal ar-15.
the aimpoint is a rugid reliable, red dot, but for me the eo-tech has more going for it than the m68/aimpoint.
eo-tech pro's
1)no mounting hardware needed to be bought. it comes with everything needed to mount it to the weapon.
2) 65moa circle is great for fast target aquasition and for cqb applications.
3) 1 moa dot is smaller than that of the aimpoint and allows for better accuracy out at farther ranges.
4) hash marks are good for leading targets. ie the 3 and 9 o'clock postions.
5) the 65moa is approx. the size of an average man at 100yds so it helps with range estimation.
6) mine takes "aa" batteries and i love this feature as they are easy to find and are plentiful and don't cost much at all.
you will be well served with either one that you choose to go with, especially for the criteria that you explained, but if ever in the future you want to engage a little farther out than it will be easier to get good hits with the eo-tech IMHO!
the only other optic i would prefer to have would be an acog but i can't afford that and that isn't what would do best in the criteria that you mentioned. the eo-tech is my pick.
The batteries on the Aimpont does last longer - but I love my 511 Eotech on my PS90. It really is a matter of personal preference.
Realize that if U have an astigmatism, U can't use an eotech - the dot will look fuzzy. Also, U need clear long distance vision or the sight will look fuzzy. I have to wear my stronger glasses for the sight to look clear. I wear these when I shoot anyway, so it isn't a big deal. But, the EOtech projects the hologram to infinity. So, if U can't see clear far away, the reticle will not look clear.
They don't have the 553 up there yet, but for personal (i.e. non-military) use, I see no reason to go with a 55x model over a 51x model. As far as I know, the only difference is night vision compatibility.
The new Aimpoints (the ACET M3 and M4) have batteries lives of 4-8 years of constant use. Also the Aimpoints are pretty much enclosed so it's hard to damage them.
With Eotech you get a better field of vision. And you can get the Reticule that is better for CQB and shotgun use IMO. Eotechs also don't need mounting rings, but Aimpoint is now building mounts on their new M4s.
An EOTech will cowitness on an M4/M16/AR15/whatever. Models up to the 553 have a center cowitness, and the 553 has a lower third cowitness (which I personally prefer). If you get, say, a 512, and put it on a LaRue mount, it will then have a lower third cowitness.
I've owned/used both and now use the Aimpoint CompM4. Eotech sits higher and I find the brightness/on-off buttons slower & more difficult to use than the rotary switch on the Aimpoint. Aside from that it's mostly personal preference as both are excellent combat-proven optics.

See if you can arrange to test both. Both have their benefits and detriments however in many cases it comes down to the unique preferences of the individual. Therefore, try to test both and see which works best with your style.
I've recently converted to the Eotech after using a Aimpoint M2 for a good while. Still like the Aimpoint and prefer the brightness controls on it, but the Eotech and the 65 MOA Circle Of Death is quicker for me on target aquisition.
There's been some excellent commentary already given on this thread.
If th ereticle looks fuzzy turn it down......you are supposed to look through it to your target. as for eye issues move the unit further foward on your gun..
I run almost hunk of optic on the planet today from short dots to acogs to EO to Ap and such.
Well just to muddy up the decision you might consider a Trijicon reflex sight.
Tritium dot, no batteries. Mounts to ARs to cowitness with sights. Very compact and lightweigt. Nothing wrong with the Eotech or Aimpoint either.
Any of these will serve you well.
Soft units they fog easy hard to see in certian light condtions and i have yet to have one survive a day long carbine class. the nthey tel lyou to use the filter yet the filter promotes fogging as well........ several depts near Chicago had a lot of issues with them as wel las the ones i have owned and seen in classes............
Never ever would i trust my life to a reflex or reflexII
