Man, whenever you have 4 hours of waiting to do maybe 12 minutes of shooting...REALLY BORED...MIND NUMBINGLY BORED! Especially if I'm using a gun I'm not being at least competitve with

Did someone shoot IDPA this morning? :D

Plinking is much more fun than the range. The range shows what the gun can do under ideal circustances. Plinking shows what YOU can do under more realistic circumstances.

Range is necessary for sighting in scopes, evaluating loads, etc.

Once you get the components right, plinking teaches you what to do with them.

Absolutely!!!! I've been shooting at my indoor range once a week for almost 2 yrs now. (Except holidays and weekend o.t. at work) I've gotten to the point now that I got through 200 rds in about 30 mins. Accuracy is very good, I think it is time to go on to IPDA or IPSC style shooting

Yes, especially if one gets into the habit of punching static paper targets. If you think about it targets are the other half of shooting.

While trying to accurately punch holes in paper targets can be fun, there is the whole world of reactive or moving targets to enjoy.

Unfortunately such targets or target systems are just too expensive for me to buy. That's why I emailed Jim Scoutten on American Shooter to request that he do some segments on targets, especially reactive and moving stuff.

I have a safe place to shoot out my back door and six 4x4 foot target stands I built for under 60 dollars. Still I would love to be able to set up a target mover, turning targets, and other reactive targets so that I could practice more realistic shooting senarios with shoot/no shoot situations, and failure to stop situations.

I have drawn up plans for all the above to use on my little range area - all under 300 to 400 dollars and some that would cost just a buck or two, but I always get stuck on the power source and control. I have thought of using garage door openers for the power/motor and their remotes as the controllers, but having never owned an opener I'm not sure if it would work as I don't know if the controller can make the opener start, stop, and reverse while running and therefore don't know what I would have to build/use to get it to do so.

I have been getting more and more bored at the range lately, I sometime dread going. I am sick of not being able to shoot a rifle more then 100 yards, I have to shoot sitting at a concrete table and chair. Shooting paper is not as much funny as it was before, I would love to be able to shoot horse apples, oranges, golf balls anything besides paper. Now that I think about it, it is not shooting that I am bored with it is the range.

I will be doing SSA steel madness myself this morning...i find it very fun...what makes it even more pleasureable is I shoot with friends, that makes the biggest difference.

when its desert time though, watch out.

Skunk: is something ELSE bothering you?

Actually I guess I'm doing alright. 10-ring and I shoot the same IDPA match, and there are only 3 berms, but the match is getting close to 40 shooters. Lots of new people, a good thing, but the club is growing so fast it's getting hard to keep people moving and sometimes the wait between stages is awful.

We're there from about 830 and don't leave till about 1300, with less than two minutes of actual trigger time.

Go to a police range where there's about two squads of officers. Then the rangemaster sets up a scenario that only one person gets to shoot at a time. Boring.

BTW, we were warned about this in some instructor class and it's best to give the non-participants some sort of instruction or drill to practice to avoid "down time."

Sometimes at IDPA matches. I try to keep boredom at bay by helping RO, pasting targets, or blathering with my pards about what we did wrong and strategys for the next stage.

I hate plinking. It seems like a waste of time and ammo to go out and shoot without a plan (unless steel and pins count as plinking, but even then I devote some time for practice.)

'the Range' = BORING

I have been on orgainzed ranges while living in Hawaii and a few times since.

I'd rather just go out and shoot on BLM land and always manage to blast a box or two while out fishing or whatever. (and I do alot of fishing and 'whatever'!)

I'm getting sorta pissed off about having to choose EITHER full magazines OR rapid fire, because the gun club limits me to 1 round every 2 seconds and the state rang allows rapid fire but only 3 rounds in the mag.
I'm also getting sorta bored with nonreactive targets.

I always do, the range I go to is so regimented. No double taps, rapid fire or anything fun. Punching holes in paper once every two seconds...yeah....fun....

Then I switched to shotguns and clays, trap, skeet and sporting...now thats fun! :D

Steel plates give an audible feedback, and that's why I like them a lot better then paper.

I have also started shooting rifles more then pistols; pistols are great, but I have discovered that I enjoy taking my time and hitting a target at 300 yards with my rifle; especially steel plates; the audible response to a good hit is instantly rewarding..

I have found most of the women I take shooting, prefer steel plates to paper..

Ranges

Are boring unless you can go at a non-std time, like 10 am or 2 pm on a tues, etc. Thats why I switched to desert shooting. Find a sandy wash and set up your own course with your buddies and have competitions. We shoot every year for the Palen cup and the Bradshaw cup- strictly .45's, lots of shooting and fun. Plenty of trigger time and harrassment.:D

Can't wait for the next steel match. I couldn't go today and I haven't gone in months and it's driving me nuts :(

I need steel!!

Currently NO

Helping with new shooters for CCW, new hire for armored guards, security guards, or the LEO practicing because they haven't shot since last time they qual'd--NO WAY I can get bored.
