Once, this guy I know...

Was going to a Toastmasters club meeting inside of a county courthouse when, standing in the ropes waiting for his turn through the metal detector, he realized that the wallet he nearly pulled out of his pocket was in fact a .380 in a wallet holster.

Luckily he was able to excuse himself by rummaging through his portfolio and claiming to have forgotten something in the car.

He has NEVER made that mistake again, heh.

I'm in the opposite boat. I use the guns for work. I've gotten out of the driveway and had to turn around to go grab the rifle.

I saw that done once when I was in law enforcement. Another officer who had just finished booking a prisoner and I had arrived at an active-alarm call at a bank after hours. We found an unsecured rear door and prepared to enter. He suddenly noticed that he had no sidearm, having stowed it as required when handling the prisoner back at the station house. My car was nearby, so I quickly returned to it, grabbed my shotgun, and handed him my service revolver (I also had a snub revolver on my ankle; he did not.)
The bank was clear; the door had been inadvertently left unlocked by departing staff.

Many years ago I used to carry a Gerber Mk1. I was trying to see some people off on a flight and the metal detector guy held it for me 'til I got back.
I remember keeping a Victorinox Pioneer in my pocket on all flights 'til not really so long ago.

These little pocket pistols are easy to forget. I walked into a Social Security office recently that had a guard at the door. He asked me if I had a pocket knife or weapon on me. I suddenly remembered I had my LCP in my front pocket. I told him I just remembered my pocket knife in my pocket and would go out and stow it in my car. Which I did, along with the .380.

Good thing it is only against the law if you get caught.

When was the last time you got patted down or had your trunk searched? Probably never.

You could probably get away with it one time if you accidently forgot to leave your pistol at home. Just don't panic and do something suspicious. I have been walikng around in public for over 50 years and no one has checked my pockets yet. I have been driving since I was 15 and no one has searched my car either. If you act half way civilized you probably have nothing to worry about.

I remember driving my dads truck when I was 16-17, I reeched into the center console and put my hand on a S&W .357. It hapend a couple times so any time I used his truck I started checking it. He was never worried about it but incase I did something stupid with the truck it was better they weren't there.

My uh-oh moment came when I was heading home and relized I still had my service rifle with me. I made it back to base and to the armory just in time.

When I was in HS we all left our rifle's, shotgun's and bow's in our vehicles during school nothing was ever said (early mid 80's).
