Between the folks at the high road and S&W customer service, you'll be set. Some companies stand behind their product and that's worth my business.

I could not agree more, "Some companies stand behind their product and that's worth my business." Some companies have a worthless two year warranties they DON'T stand behind for two minutes, and some companies have LIFETIME warranties they stand behind forever. But if you ever mention the companies that don't stand behind their products...

Glad you got it back fixed, I was starting to sweat since I just bought one like yours. At least now I know if mine breaks I just need to:

REPAIR FRAME

REPLACE HAND

If it makes you feel any better, I have the same model as well and have shot plenty of factory .357 out of it with no ill effects.

Your experience with S&W is far better than my experience with kel tec. I bought a P-3AT on 4-15-12. I shot it for 2 weeks assuming it needed to be broke in. The gun came back 6 weeks later. It hung up the very first shot. It functioned so poorly I couldn't shoot the rest of the shells I had for it. Now it's back in FL. I guess kel tec has it on beach letting it get a tan. uuhhmmm, yah, it's got a lifetime warranty and kel tec stands behind it.

I took the 640-1 pro out to the range yesterday with the following results:

1) 100% ignition of factory primers and ammunition including Corbon, Speer, Buffalo Bore, & Underwood

2) Vastly improved and centered primer strikes

3) High accuracy

4) Mechanical integrity, including no thumb piece, cylinder locking, or action related issues

As a result, this S&W has once again returned to trusted status and is part of the carry rotation. I do not blame the ammo for previous issues. It is just one of those times when a firearm needs a little bit of extra love from the factory. I am pleased with the S&W service team and with this firearm.

Got it loaded up with BUFFALO-BARNES LEAD-FREE Tactical 357 Mag Low Flash-Short Barrel - 125 gr. Barnes XPB @ 1225 fps (from 2.5"), which is, in my opinion, superior to Corbon's DPX load of the same bullet; and Underwoods 158 grain Gold Dot .357 Magnum ( Muzzle Velocity: 1475 fps out of a 4" barrel), which is mighty.

Now I just have to wait for some grips from Jim Badger to arrive, and I'm all set for 2012.

I didn't read all of the posts yet but.........

My 629 was having a sticky thumbpiece problem caused by the far end (near the muzzle) of the center being peened or mushromed a little. Also, my ejector rod was less than straight.

I took it apart and rolled the ejector pin on my counter and TAPPED it with a rubber mallet to straighten it. I just did it by eye. Then I un-mushroomed the end of the center pin with a file and some very fine sandpaper soaked in oil. Now it works amazing. Before, the center pin would not fall free from the ejector rode. Now it does.

I"m a baker, not a gunsmith but it was easy to fix.
