Not the bullet the gun? Seems the garand thumb is famous but I got a new one. I was cleaning a mauser bolt for the first time. It has a long blade that runs the length of the bolt that pivots. (clear as mud but mauser guys will know) I twisted it and it clamped up on the meaty part of my palm and couldn't figure out how it worked to get it off. So I am standing there going ouch ouch ouch with a gun part dangling from my hand. Strange but true.

Got bit by my S&W 410S once... I had a bad grip.

Also, got a scope to the eye from my 30.06 too :)

Come to think of it, I got some pretty good spray to the face from some hot .357 magums too

Reminds me of the time I had a hermit crab pinch the palm of my hand and then retract into its shell. Not much you can do in that situation but figure out how to get the danged hermit crab (or Mauser extractor) off!

I was racking my (ex) Glock 30 .45 with my right hand and got bit by the ejection port. I had to rerack it to free the skin on the edge of my palm before it would let go.

:p

I was shooting my (ex) 1911 and the serrations on the slide clipped off a piece of the outer edge of the nail on my left thumb. That was my bad for getting lazy with my grip.

:D

Does putting a finger close to the "gap" between the cylinder and the barrel of a revolver so that it gets slighly burned during a shot count?

Counts for the hurt but not the inert. Strictly no bang involved.

I put a belt clip on my P3AT. I took it off after one range session and got a pocket holster instead.

Doing failure drills with my XD. My hands had become sweaty... Tap, rack, my left hand slipped on the slide and the tip of my ring finger went in the ejection port.

Painful lesson.

I one time had a .357 that when I first got it, I would pull the trigger and the gun did not fire. I lowered the barrel toward the ground. I did not realize that my finger moved forward toward the front of the cylinder. It then went boom. I still have gun power in that finger. That is the first revolver that I had ever had that would hang fire. A old gunsmith finally found the problem but I lost faith in the gun so I traded it. New owner has had no problems.

Got bit by my new 22/45 MKIII bolt. Had my hand over the bolt when I closed it...pinched the fleshy part of middle finger between the bolt and breach face.:cuss: Stung like a b**** and bled like a stuck pig. Worst part was I was still at the gun shop where I had just purchased it when it happened. talk about embarrassed.

I've been slide and hammer bit by a few PPK's and a few High Powers/1911's.

I've also had a Garand slam fire and go grenade on me. That was exciting. :)

Twice, the first time was while shooting a cheap Sterling .380, the hammer broke off and flew back and hit me in the shoulder hard enough to cut me through my shirt.

The second time was while shooting a junky old .22 single action that had a case head rupture and hot gas and bits of metal blew out hte loading gate and got my thumb a little.

Using an old borrowed Savage 110 I shot a buck with my face much to close to the scope as it had very poor eye relief.
Cut my eyebrow pretty good.
Since that time many, many years ago I have never owned a scope that did not have at least 3.5 inches of eye relief.

Pretty sure most of us have gotten a black eye from a scope.

Hmmm ... most of the people that I know are "gun people" and I only know of one who was ever tagged by a recoiling scope.

I have been bitten by an M1 bolt AND a K98k bolt once got me somewhat like the OP described except that the bolt didn't get quite as much of a mouthful as it did with him ... thank goodness! ;)

Lessee, what else ... I have been sliced by various PP(K)(K/S) slides and the original wooden grips on my S&W629 bruised and bloodied my thumb knuckle.

Accidentally released the bolt of an SKS on my thumb. Extractor punched a nice little hole. Surprising amount of blood.

Been there, done that, have the t-shirt:

  1. Palm bite from slapping magazine into auto pistol? CHECK
  2. Remove top of thumb via slide while practicing off-hand shooting? CHECK
  3. Gouge in hand from sharp sight rail on Saiga-12? CHECK
  4. Burn from hot brass down back of neck? CHECK
  5. Burn from hot brass falling into shoe? CHECK
  6. Temporary deafness due to forgetting ear protection at indoor range? CHECK
  7. Bloody circle on forehead from overly aggressive clearing of a 7.62x39 out of AK? CHECK

I'm getting a scoped rifle soon, so I'm certain I'll be adding my face to the list someday...

Had a 45 slam fire and the slide hit my hand at the base of my thumb. Bled like crazy and still have the scar from that one. Thought I was going for stitches for awhile.

The only gun injury I can recall so far is getting smacked in the eye by the scope on my .30-30. I'd shot it at least 100 times and for some reason I was just a weeee bit too close that time. Didn't split me open but hurt like hell.

A couple slide slices, that's all. Well actually, on those occasions where I failed to use hearing protection, the report hurt my ears.

The answer is yes, more than once. Sadly, the only one that comes to mind at the moment is when the hammer on an older 1911 got the fleshy skin between my thumb and index finger a long, long time ago.

Smith and Wesson model 41, reassembling after cleaning. Trying to close the clumsy designed trigger guard. It would not close all the way, then, it finally decided to fall into place, and the slide proceeded to slam forward. Oh but don't worry, the very tip of my finger took the impact. Gave me a nice little blood blister!

Lacerated my thumb MULTIPLE times in the same cleaning of a recently acquired Remmy 1100, circa 1974. So razer sharp are the rail recesses, clearly designed by satan himself, that I did not even feel the cuts until the Hoppe's worked its way into the cuts & the blood began to drain from the receiver onto the workbench.

Apparently, Hoppe's is an effective (but FAR from painless) antiseptic; I still have the thumb.

Scope eye many times, even split my forehead on a AR rear sight. I've actually got a nice little scar from it.

...I like shooting handguns better :)
