Well....If I had to......only choose three.....
12ga. pump gun
.223 autoloader
.357 Mag. revolver

Wait a minute! That 12ga pump is NOT YOURS!!!!

Get your hands off my guns! You have more than me already.

Just cause I let you clean them all does not mean you can say they are yours.

That's it. I'm getting my OWN safe.

If i had to choose 3 guns they would be.....

.17hmr in a easy handeling rifle....its more accurate than any .22 at much longer distances....

.308 in bolt action.....there is a reason police use this round....it is dead nuts...also will take care of even the largest of game.....

Remington 870....12 gauge, how many times has someone broken in to your home and it took 25 shots to disuade them....I think after one or two, the message will probably be loud and clear....

1) Concealable auto pistol in 9mm or larger - got my Taurus PT145PRO

2) High capacity semi auto rifle - Got my SKS, AK, or my Sub2000 (the latter a better HD weapon than even a shotty IMHO)

3) .22LR Rifle - plinking, small game hunting, and training others to shoot. - got my 10/22

One common theme I like to keep is affordable ammo. Its easy to stock up on 9mm, 7.62x39, and .22LR. Well, not as easy as it was a year ago. :(

I reload for the .45 and have >1000 brass cases already. Shotgun ammo is a little too pricey if you're into hording. It'd be kinda expensive to stash away 1000rnds of 00 Buck!

My vote for what every honest citizen should have:

1. The current service arm of one's nation, to better insure the security of a free state by providing a counterbalance or domestic homeguard to the standing army as needed. Thus, for most of us -- an M16A4 or M4.

2. Some means of CCW, to better ensure domestic peace from crime. Make and model entirely personal choice, as befits one's abilities and taste.

3. Whatever the heck you want for fun.

Old School:

Winchester Model 94 in 30-30
Winchester Model 12 in 12ga
S&W Model 10 in .38

Not much you couldn't do with that combination of stuff. Ammo is widely available, as are knowledgable gunsmiths and spare parts. It would probably be *cough* better *cough* to go with a Remington 870 for the shotgun, as they are currently in production and are less expensive; however, I just plain prefer the Model 12. The same goes for the Marlin 336 over the Model 94.

I think Kaylee's got it.

1. Scoped AR-15 w/bipod and long barrel... 26" or whatever they have - for longer ranged activities. You can switch out uppers on an AR for other calibers, also shorter barrels. Hunting's possible with it, in some states. I'm not a hunter, so it's a moot point anyhow.

2. This is hard. Best choose a 1911 in .45. I think I can switch the slide out for 10mm, and I know I can do it for .22.

3. Kel-Tec PLR-16 - mount a reflex sight, use for HD and those days when you feel like a Mall Ninja and want to look the part. It functions as a legal SBR. I need a laser with it, too.

All I need for this gear: AR mags, 1911 mags (a few 7rd models, several 10rd models for reloads/nightstand use), and two types of ammo - .45 and .223.

1) SKS = reliable, simple, almost indestructible :D
2) 12 gauge shotty = the ultimate close quarters combat weapon, IMO
3) 357 mag = a simple, reliable handgun in a very effective caliber

Long Distance

On my wish list would be a .50 sniper rifle of some kind, just for the sheer fun of blasting a target from a mile out, or so. So, call me weird, but don't call me Quigly.

Prince Yamato is right-on.

9mm pistol
Ak-47
12ga. Pump-action of your choice

It really depends upon the purpose. If you ask a sportsman, he'll tell you some combination of target guns and multi-thousand dollar shotguns. Ask a self-defense instructor and you'll get a different answer.

My take from a fighting perspective:

1) Pistol or revolver in the maximum caliber you can shoot quickly and accurately

2) Hunting style rifle accurized and with a scope in a common caliber such as 30-06, 308 Winchester, or whatever. It could be a semi-automatic Browning BAR, a traditional bolt action hunting rifle, or some lever gun. Just make sure it has iron sights as backup for the scope. Even a military surplus rifle, such as a Mauser or Swiss K-31 would work fine (assuming you can get a scope).

3) Rifle for fighting such as an M1A, Garand, FAL, AR-15, or AK-47.

If zombies are involved, you should probably go with something in the AR-15 or AK-47 class with large magazine capacity.

#2 can be used for hunting or fighting, as needed. It can also be used competitively. If you go to military rifle matches, many of the rifles listed can be used.
