Our local paper printed a very good letter to the editor that was pro-ccw. I'd post a link to it, but their site is hosed.

Here's a comment regarding that story:

Story: Laws should not make law-abiding citizens defenseless

Name: Rick Schwartz

Hometown: Crown Point IN

Comment: As your neighbor to the west, I disagree with Daryl Meeks and urge Ohio not to allow law-abiding residents to carry concealed handguns.

You see, for many years we here in Indiana have been allowed to do this, and criminals know it is a bad idea to attack a Hoosier. Nothing says no to a rapist or mugger quite like a bullet hole in the chest.

We are certainly doing our best to spread the news to Hoosier criminals that Ohions seem to prefer to be defenseless lambs and that it is much safer for our miscreants to travel due east and do their evil deeds there.

This encourages our rapists, muggers, mass killers, white-sheeted bigots, terrorists, gay bashers and anti-Semites to leave Indiana and move to Ohio. The mass exodus of our criminals helps ensure the continued well-being of Indiana residents -- even those who choose not to carry a handgun.

Ohioans who will be victimized by these transplanted predators can find solace in knowing that we deeply appreciate their politicians keeping them available as easier targets of opportunity. If it saves just one Hoosier life, it is worth it.

That's brilliant. We need to get similar ones run in the Washington Post (aka "Pravda on the Potomac") regarding Maryland and DC.

All it needs to be really effective is a nice little table comparing crime rates for various criminal activities (e.g. robbery, rape, burglary, homicide, assualt, etc.) in Indiana vs Ohio.

You've gotta be kidding, nobody wants facts.. When I point out that a woman is 3 times more likely to be raped in Ohio that in Pennsylvania... nobody cares..

Too many sheeple in this state I think.....

You're right, braindead. Soccer moms, Oprah watchers, etc. don't care about the facts. They respond to the emotional sell. We can and should use this technique, as well. Why are we so afraid to get in their face (not the anti's, the sheeple) with emotional stories about how GUNS SAVE LIVES and GUN CONTROL KILLS. I'm not saying to abandon or distort the facts. We just need to convey them in an emotional vehicle.

Yes, it is an uphill battle. Perception is reality. The anti's get their message carried as a matter of course and for free by the media (see John Lott's new book, The Bias Against Guns). We have to work harder.
