While I was shooting at my usual indoor range yesterday, the manager came up and politely asked me not to shoot my new FN Five-seveN on the pistol range anymore - seems those little zingers were dimpling their backstop!
I'm impressed! I have been using only the street-legal civvie "training" ammo (SS192), but even so it seems that their 1/4" steel plate doesn't like anything over 2000 fps.
Now I want to see somebody make a longer barrel for this gun - the round was developed for SMG, so it could probably use a little more barrel length.
Are there other usable handgun loadings in this velocity range? I've heard stories about the .224 Boz (10mm necked down), but they don't seem to exist. Magsafe offers low-bullet-weight HV loads for most common cartridges, but their prices are astronomical. (E.g. a 46 grain 10mm load with a claimed 2400 fps - are these numbers real?? - for over $1.50 a round discounted.)
