Check out the 3rd pic closely. Italian proofmarks and date code...

Part of me wants to say that the seller is a border line crook but the other part of me says that this guy must be a salesmanship genius! He starts things out at $500 which may be a little high for an aged repro. Nowhere does he mention that it's a reproduction but then again, nowhere does he mention that it's original either. He does have that picture with the Italian production codes but he diverts your attention to the cylinder engraving in the description. You really can't say he's dishonest in his listing but I'm pretty danged sure I wouldn't buy a used car from this guy either!:uhoh:

As far as the high bidder goes (whoever that turns out to be), you've just been taught a lesson in the old saying "buyer beware!" While the "error-net" has it's problems in consistent and accurate information at times, a little research like maybe asking folks here if this is a good deal would have prevented you from bidding big money on an Italian reproduction. Could the listing have been more clear that it was a reproduction? Sure, but it's your responsibility as the buyer to do your research and know just what you're buying too.

My Bad

I did not notice the Italian markings I just assumed it was an antique. I would have a hard time bidding any sort of big money on a gun that I could not inspect with my own eyes and hands. Not the first mistake I have made in my life and wont be the last.

I'm going to give the benefit of the doubt and suggest that the seller is as ignorant of what he has listed as those that have bid on it.

I will say that until I got to the third pic my interest was piqued, then I scrolled back up and took a closer look at the that flared grip. It's a nice looking piece but somebody is gonna get dinged pretty good when they win the auction. It's too bad.

"If" it really were a Colts Dragoon in that condition then the current bid would be considered theft.

I doubt the seller is ignorant on this Dragoon. He knows too much about the Dragoon by his/her own description not to know its Italian. He knows exactly what he/she is doing.

I just informed the seller of the facts. Lets see if he amends his description. So far there are only 2 bidders who apparently don't have a clue.

My first reaction was just the opposite of the op. I wanted to know why it was so cheap. Then the proof marks. Yeah, I have to agree the seller knows exactly what he's pulling. One thing you have to figure about gunbroker, they're are some shrewd old boys who keep track of it, and if something seems way too cheap, there is a reason.

To Berkley
The barrel lug has a spring loaded catch so that it will stay in the gun

I agree 40-82 100% But somebody, nine hours from now, is going to get a serious wake up call. The description while vague is not misleading in my opinion and pictures of the proof marks are there for everyone to see.........that is, if they cared to look.

But, I'm thinking, all of those bidders saw nothing but an original Colt for a song!!!

The title is enough for me. It's listed as an "1848 Colt Dragoon Revolver". The only manufacturer's name listed is Colt. Nowhere is the word replica used, or the replica manufacturer. If you didn't see the proof marks and know what they were, you would have no indication that it was a replica. He probably thinks the proof marks are his get outta jail free card. It's worded so as to be misconstrued as an original but without anything blatant to indicate fraud. It's misleading at best, intentional fraud at worst. Very slick and Gunbroker probably won't like it.

There are two bidders - the current high bidder has bid 6 times, the other only once.

Has anyone clicked on the fraudulent action button on the listing?

Seems like if one says "Colt" without any mention of "replica" or "Italian made or some such that is less than Jake......seems to imply it is original.

Report him for fraud. Gunbroker has a tool that will allow you to do that.

I almost did report him for fraud but I send him an e-mail saying if he doesn't change it as being a replica that I will report it to gunbroker. Waiting on a response.
