well obviously you still legally own the gun, you just lost it. if i have a title to a car and it falls off of my boat and sinks and i go fishing and catch my car, it is still mine, and i should hope that i could still drive it...

Or you could live in a state that allows private gun sales W/out paperwork. Then .like me, you wouldn't own ANY guns

Well, I was a bit drunk and wildly shooting into the air, the ground, and just about everything else... I was on my boat at the time and had my entire collection of guns with me. One or two or thirty rounds hit the boat and I sank. Fortunately life jackets still work with holes in them. The guns, boat, precariously balanced propane grill and a package of hot dogs were a total loss.
Fortunately I escaped with my life.

is there a size limit on cars?
i live in a state where private transfers dont require paperwork also. finding a lost gun wouldnt be a problem...unless it was used in a crime while lost, as was mentioned above.

So, you lost all your guns in a boating mishap. As said above, you've reported them as lost to the proper authorities to keep yourself off the hook if one shows up in a crime and to officially get your name removed from them.
Then, miracle of all miracles, you snag one while fishing. I hope you go to the same authorities and report the recovery, else there could be strong grounds for prosecution on filing a false police report. (Especially if the rest of your lost "collection" turns up in your possession.)
And, by the way, if you collected from your insurance company for your “loss”, the guns no longer belong to you. They belong to the insurance company and if they’re not turned over, add insurance fraud to the list.

OK so I can't take much more of all this.
Folks, in case you live on some bizarre planet other than Earth, the whole "I lost my guns in a tragic boating accident" is humor, satire, farcical, joke, hah hah, funny, not true, not serious, not dangerous, not bad, not harmful to any wildlife etc.

No boats or firearms were harmed in the making of this thread.
As for mine I do have a State Farm claim for a sunken ski boat a few years ago. That I happened to have 50 or so firearms on the boat at the time well, let's just call that poor planning on my part.
Boy do I feel dumb taking them with me that day........but they all sank along with my Supra Beast.

the joke is supposed to be, when someone asks you if you have/own any guns, usually in case of a seizure, you say, "I USED to have guns, but they were all tragically lost in the sinking of my boat."
