I am thinking of getting a Savage Long Range Hunter in 260 Remington for F Class Open comp. It has a 26" barrell and an adjuctable muzzle brake.

I know a muzzle brake is not allowed in F shooting but since the brake is adjustable, does that mean you can close the brake all the way and still shoot? Thanks.

I would hope that "no muzzle brake" means just what it says unless those choosing such a device shoot on their own relay.
YMMV

In the past I have seen brakes removed for a match. That is prohibitive for some setups.

A new thing at one local range is FPR - field precision rifle. They allow muzzle devices.

ETA: You may be able to replace the part of the brake that is open with a solid piece.

I guess you've never had the oppurtunity to shoot next to an F-Open person shooting a 300 Win Mag or 7mm Mag. They lift grass off the ground when they go off. Lol.

What's the purpose of a muzzle brake on a rifle chambered for a cartridge with very little recoil such as the 260 Remington?
