I've had occasional instances of the trigger to fail to 're-set'. The trigger bow has been polished, inside and out. The trigger will almost fall into the slot on the frame. When an empty magazine is inserted into the frame, with the trigger and all of the internals except the magazine latch in place there is free movement to and fro. Disassemble the pistol, re-assemble with the mag catch in place, there is occasional failure to re-set.

What, in the mag catch, will cause the trigger to occasionally fail to reset?

Thanks,

salty.

If the mag catch sideloads the magazine a bit when latched, it could cause it to drag on the trigger bow.

Solution sounds like an increase in your trigger return spring tension to me.

Fail to Reset

Bow dragging on the magazine...Fingerpiece not straight/square with bow...side to side or up and down. Excessive vertical slop causing the trigger to tilt in the channel. and binding on the corner of the fingerpiece. Fingerpiece mislocated on the bow...too high or too low
Sometimes the out of square/parallel issue alows the trigger to fall in and out until the group is assembled and under load.

You didn't say if your trigger has an overtravel adjustment screw, if it has this feature you may not get enough trigger travel to the rear if it is set up wrong. Reset is the term you used, but in this case it would be not enough trigger travel.

Occasional failure to 're-set'.

Thanks guys. I really don't know whats going on with this trigger. The failure of the trigger to reset occurs about once every couple dozen rounds or so.

The mag isn't dragging on the inside of the trigger bow. There is free movement of the trigger bow and finger piece within the channel. Empty mags are ejected with vigor.

I 'spect I could replace the trigger or the mag catch/release, but that wouldn't leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy about reliability.

Something is going on here..just wish I could figure it out.:banghead:

Aww, the party never ends, thanks for your help and taking the time to reply.

Trigger

Salty...Check the up/down slop. Also posible that the disconnect's reset drags on it and keeps it from resetting.

When if fails to reset, look closely at it to see if it's tilted downward in the trigger guard...and if pushing it up slightly frees it up and lets if reset.

Check to see if it's dragging on the underside of the grip safety lug. Usually also causes the grip safety to hang, but not always. Sometimes just the tip of the grip safety finger hangs it up after the grip safety has reset. There should be just a tiny bit of clearance between the trigger bow and the end of the grip safety lug. About .015 inch is common. (Trigger should move that amount before being stopped by the lug. Less is sometimes required if the hammer hooks have been cut shorter than .020 inch, but .015 is good for stock hammers.

You may also want to check the tension on the middle leg of the sear spring.
It will control trigger reset force.
I like a minimum of 20 oz as measured on the trigger.

I had one do this a while back. Check the front of the disconnect to see if theres a shinny spot on the bottom corner of the square sear pin channel. If so, the magazine is dragging on the disconnect.
