Hello,

I'm having a heck of a time disassembling my K9.

From Kahr's K9 disassembly instructions:
1. remove magazine; verify empty
2. draw slide 3/4" to rear
3. tap the slide stop pin out
4. ease the slide forward under recoil spring tension
5. with the slide stop pin removed, pull the trigger to release the striker, then relax pressure on the trigger and push the slide forward off of the frame

My problem is with step 5.
The slide goes forward about 3/4" and then no further.
It feels like there is some hanging up internally.

I can re-insert the slide stop pin, cycle the slide, the striker is cocked, the trigger releases the striker, i.e. the pistol appears to function ok.

However every time I remove the slide stop, pull the trigger and push the slide forward it only goes forward so far and then that's it.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Don.

ddc,

Try pulling the slide back, just very very slightly, while you pull the trigger to release the tension.

Actually if you pull Forward and pull the trigger the gun will dry fire and release the slide to be moved forward.

Keep a light forward pressure on the slide as you pull the trigger, and you'll see/feel the slide move forward slightly.

Continue with the forward pressure as you slowly release the trigger and the slide will slip forward off the frame.

Thanks!

The "keep the pressure going forward as you pull the trigger" method seems to be working for me.

I've gone through the dissassembly/reassembly process around 5 times now just to make sure I have it down and it works every time.

However if I do it two distinct stages, e.g.
1. pull the trigger
2. push the slide forward

it hangs up everytime.

What is happening internally that is different?

Thanks again.

The striker/firing pin lug is probably hanging up on the rotory sear.

With the trigger back, the rotating sear is out of engagement range with the striker lug.

The slide stop pin is held in by
1) the slide rail and
2) pressure on the slide stop pin from a metal spring bar inside the right frame.

To remove the pin, hold the top rear of the slide in your right hand with your thumb under the rear grip. Squeeze and retract the slide until the slide cutout is lined up with the pin. You should be able to hold it just like this with just your right hand.

Now take a hard plastic non-marking object in your left hand and whack the small end of the pin gently but firmly to snap the pin out of engagement with the metal spring bar. Pull out the slide stop pin.

Release pressure on the slide. Pull the trigger to release the striker tension, and the slide should slide off the front of the frame.

Reverse to reassemble.
