I have a USP 40 full size that I have had for about 5 years. I am considering selling it to fund another 1911 45. The USP has about 700 rounds thru it and is in perfect condition. What is a fair asking price for it? I know alot of people say don't sell a firearm but since I bought my Kimber I really don't think I will be shooting it much, if at all.

Perhaps this has changed, but 6 months ago, there were lots of USP40f's for sale, including one I was selling. Mine was 2 years old (date code AA) and had only 50 rounds through it, WITH night sights, and I couldn't even get $500 on TFL or HKPro. It looked ABSOLUTELY NIB. Even the locking block part of the barrel wasn't scratched yet!

Fortunately, I managed to trade it for a USP45 that I really wanted. One year newer, but about 500 rounds through it, and it shows a bit of wear.

I hope you will have better luck.

I've seen used USPs in my area anywhere from $475 to $550 depending on condition, caliber & accessories.

I can't prove this, but I have come to the conclusion that USP's lose value quicker than many other guns. In looking at both new and used prices over the past couple of years, it appears to me that they sell new in the $700 to $800 range now, but used in the $475 to $575 range. I bought one used myself over a year ago for $550 (.45 full size, stainless slide), and it was in almost-new condition.

I'm not sure why this is, but my theories would be that some people buy new USP's and then decide they don't like them after 100 or 200 rounds, and want to sell them to buy something else - or maybe the new ones are a little "overpriced" compared to competing guns like Glocks or Walther P99's, and the used ones quickly fall to parity with these competitors.

At any rate, if I wanted another USP I would definitely look for a used one rather than a new one, to take advantage of this "aberration" in the market.

Why can't I find prices like that down here!

New was 700+

Used was normally 600+

Maybe I will have better luck at a Phoenix gun show.

I remember when the USP's were selling for $475 new. From what I heard, HK raised the price so they could sell more.;)

They are not worth much, I will give you $150:D I just picked one up for $600 with some extra high caps and my friend got a USP 45 for $500. They ask a lot at shows and on Gunbroker but seem to move pretty good around $500. How about $200 for it:D

My .40S&W USP (KK) was bought used with Trijicon sights, four mags, and a Galco holster for $500. Condition was Excellent.

My .40S&W Compact USP (KI) was bought NIB for $530. It had been on the shelves forever apparently, and i walked in the week prior to inventory.

As good as they are, I have to agree that the USP is overpriced. If I ever buy another (probably not, as I have what I want) it will be used. As a used gun, they are great. They are extremely durable, and the savings can be significant, unlike other guns. I actually saw used Glock 26's going for MORE than new G26's after Christmas! Apparently the gun shops forgot to mark down the used pistols..............
