Do you think this is a fair trade?

1:Used-Like-New: S&W J-Frame Model 60 .357 W/ original box, inserts, keys. Includes 3 Safariland speed loaders.

Trade For:

1: New: Ruger Mark III 22LR 6-7/8" Stainless, Laminate ADJUSTABLE SIGHTS. Item # 0112

I voted no because I bought a blued Ruger Target model for less than $300.00. Granted it's not the same Ruger but It shoots just as well. But, if it's something you want then go for it.

I would say the Ruger owner would be getting the better end of the deal. Book values might suggest otherwise, but the Ruger is the better gun of these two, for sure. More accurate, and a more sturdy design.

A Model 60 357 is NOT going to stand up to too much 357 before it starts to come apart. S&W will say "It is meant to practice with 38 and carry 357" or some other nonsense. The Ruger will go forever, even with hot 22LR. It is so easy to hit with, it may even be the deadlier defense gun. ;)

I'd agree that maybe ask for some extra cash. Ruger is a great gun as is the S&W but you'll get more use from the .22.

Not an even trade, I voted no.

That particular Ruger Mark III runs about $430 from most online sellers. A new S&W Model 60 is worth about $200 more than the Ruger.

I would trade the S&W and ask for $150 in cash on top of it for the Ruger.

It's not far off. I would say only $50 added with the Ruger. The Ruger is brand new and the S&W is used but, lnib. But, if the S&W owner really wants a great 22 to do some plinking? It would NOT be the end of the world to make this trade for something he really wants and will enjoy using.

i see ss laminate mk3's for about 450 online

the OP doesnt mention what features his M60 had but i can find NIB m60(2inch) online for 500$ as for what its price would be used, i dunno.

if it was a 2inch model its a fair trade imo.

Well the Smith is worth 125.00 more than the Ruger. BOTH guns once they leave a shop are considered used, fired or not. We would not sell a gun that someone traded in that was new as a "brand new gun". Now, the Smith is probably a fair trade for about 50.00 to 75.00 additional money. That is not taking into account the 3 holsters as they should not be a part of this trade because you are just giving them away with a more expensive gun. You should be able to draw at least an additional 75.00 for the 3 used holsters so if the Ruger guy wants them then he should give you 150.00-175.00 additional money to keep things "fair". Good luck, because in the end of the day it is totally your decision and if you want the Ruger more than the Smith then as long as you can justify the straight across trade then it is a good one.

It would not be for me ~ but, fair is what both parties are happy with, and that is not always equal in dollars. Ever trade cars??? See how much boot your local LGS would ask from you for the same trade.

I personally would want the Model 60 over a .22. But, if the .22 is what you want go for it.

I voted no, but only because with the accessories the Smith is worth more. That Ruger is a great pistol. I own the exact pistol and I shoot it more than the others. It has also helped me become a better pistol marksman.
