I'm taking possession of an R1A1 Sporter tomorrow and I'm curious who sells the best magazines, and are there any to steer clear from?

Speaking from experience, I would say to stay away from DSA mags, and Korean mags. The Belgian, Austrian, Israeli, etc., surplus mags are OK. IMO the best of all are the Austrian mags. (You can tell them by the witness holes on the back.)

My R1A1 doesn't care for metric mags at all. I haven't tried any aftermarket mags, but I keep thinking of trying Moses magazines

While not considered a good AR mag, many say the Thermolds are one of the best poly Metric FAL mags. I have never had any trouble with them. I do not store them loaded to reduce feed lip fatigue.

I totally agree with Gordon. My Rock River LAR-8 uses the FAL-pattern magazines and Moses Machine makes spectacular magazines. You can find their web page and order directly from them. I've never had a single problem with mine and they're far, far better than any surplus FAL magazines I've found. Well worth the price.

I was just talking with the guys at Moses... be advised, they are SLAMMED with orders! They're working hand over fist to keep up. Be patient though - they're worth the wait for sure.

depends on your rifle. every fal clone is different enough that no one mag always works in it let alone works in every version of that model. one of the few rifles where its real darn picky on mags. even more than 1911s and certain mags. moses mags are good ones that you can file and get to fit and function easy enough.
