The manual of arms for the FAL includes a move very much like jumping on a pogo stick

tell me about it, I had to kick open the breech like a dozen times. Never seen a rifle lock up so tightly before.

DO NOT stomp on the FAL charging handle. You will break the knob off.

Use the "karate" edge of your hand to apply force against the knob, while at the same time bumping the butt of the gun firmly on the ground. Rarely takes more than a few bumps before clearing, and does not damage the cocking handle.

As some one who has used neither I would go with the FAL.

+1000 on the Fal. More ergonomic, less recoil, better looks, less damaging on brass, and used ones can be had for $700-800 all day long on GB
