Fanny Pack for CC

I think a fanny pack specifically designed to carry a firearm is a great idea. I also like OWB and IWB holsters. I think that the key is to use whatever system is appropriate for what you are wearing, and where you are going.

TraderDell, if you walk into the Dinosaur BBQ with a Fanny Pack on, everyone is going to laugh at you.

Why should any self-assured person care?

I am looking for a small belt pack I can carry a few items in while running. I haven't checked the athletic goods stores yet.

Personal preferences rule, but I don't carry anything in a fanny/belly pack except the gun and a spare mag in an outside pocket. There's enough delay in drawing from a fanny/belly pack that I don't want to fumble around getting other stuff out of the way.

Man --I was in Denver last Sunday at a restaurant. I would say that at least 1/3 of the people had fanny packs. I was wearing one too and was concerned that I might stick out---not a chance. I think they're making a comeback--I see them everywhere.

Good to know that. My experience is mostly around the 16th Street Mall... maybe I'm overgeneralizing.

I used to carry a CZ97B in a fanny pack, worn at 12:00. It was a great setup, and with two wee kids and a stroller I looked just like every other dad on the street.

I still use it, only now with an M&P 40S&W. And yes, it's easy to sling across the shoulder when I want to grab the pistol and run.

I use an Uncle Mike's from time to time during the summer months, and it both works well and never draws so much as a second look. It's a convenient way to carry. Just make sure that you get one that's designed for a gun; you don't want a fully loaded .45 1911 bouncing around unsecured.

I use a "Jagwear" pack. It does not have its own belt, just loops for your regular belt. The internal holster pouch holds a Sig 230 very well, easily accessed and totally concealed.

Don't know where they are on the web, but I see them at gun-shows regularly.

Way back when "fanny packs" for CCW first came out, I used a Bianchi pack intil I wore it out. I picked up a Bagmaster pack at a gunshow a while back. in those days, I carried medium to full-size guns.

I now use the Bagmaster as a waist pack when hiking. I have had to run with it, carrying a P85 and worn in back; it wasn't too noticeable, but I don't want to wear it for fitness running--it's rather bulky for that use.

Dealing with a LCP, I have to ask, "Why a fanny pack?". If you're going to use a fanny pack, which is something I haven't seen anyone wear in years, why not use a larger sidearm? You've got something small and compact with teh LCP, I'd recommend an IWB, etc.

Well I had planned to carry in my front pant pocket. I've lost some weight and as I said I have no a**. Literally none, I am a uniquely built man. I have larger hand guns so I could carry anyone of several in the dreaded fanny pack. I'm thinking just tie a piece of para cord on it and wear it around my neck :) I will tell all of you that this place is THE most friendly of any of the sites I visit and I appreciate all the thought and suggestions.

Well, dang , where are my manners?

I plumb forgot:

W E L C O M E !

i have carried a mountainsmith lumbar bag slung over my shoulder for the last 15 years..murse or whatever..but it carries everything securely and room for more if needed. i fashioned a velcro generic holster on the inside 'hidden' flap and would wear it either to the side or occ in front 'parachute' style.

i recently retired it for a maxpedition ccw unit. i have 2 the jumbo and the remora...the remora is a small unit that i wear slung over the shoulder or again up front...it has an internal pocket that will accept a weapon as well as an external 'snap' pocket lined with velcro.

been happy with it so far...well made and does not necessarily scream "gun!"

I have two of the large sized Galco packs ( one in sky blue and one in dark blue ) still from back when fanny packs were " the thing " Not having kids at home anymore I find them ideal as a " Bedside " solution . I pack a 1911 in one , and a p7 HK in the other , flashlight and extra mags ( beyond the one allowed in the pistol compartment ) go into the front pocket and i have something to just " throw over a shoulder " that carries almost as much as my old duty belt used to . I really dont " wear " them anymore , but use them as a " grab and go " kit where in the middle of the night i can just take that and have anything i might need . In fact if i travel over night i lock my regular ccw in the trunk of the car and take one of the fanny packs into the motel room since it has more stuff stuffed into it than i normally carry LOL .

I have a box full of maybe 30-40 holsters, collected over 3 decades. Many specific ones for when I was in business clothing. Now that I wear workout pants and tee shirts, I alwys wear a fanny pac, once you get used to one, it is tough to use anything else. I click one clasp, and all my stuff is on or off in a second, and if you get a good leather one and you wear black or dark colored pants, they blend in to where you really don't notice them as much. Using two hands you can open and draw from one in less than a second. And with 90 degree heat in the summer, it's either a pack of some kind, or a gun that is going to get ruined from perspiration, if you are outdoors much.

There was a time when I used a "surplus" belt pouch-the kind that had a wide belt loop-to carry my wallet and pocket stuff, including a CCW. It kept my pockets empty when working in the heat for greater comfort and to prevent sweat soaking. I was kidded for wearing a "colostomy bag".

I use a "fanny" pack over the shoulder...carrying a 4" .357 Taurus.
It might be obvious to some, but concealed is concealed, and it's on me.

I have always thought of waist packs, belt packs, etc as "discreet" carry, compared to true "concealed" carry. Someone with training can tell you are carrying something, but the vast majority don't notice anything unusual.

While not formally trained, when I see a "photo" vest, waist bag or shoulder bag (especially the Maxpedition type), my first thought is, "Are they packing?"

Its usually all I use and no one I know ever guessed I had a gun.. I have a Bagmaster now, and it is just tarting to comer apart.. about 2 years of daily carry with it..

After watching I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry last night, I will only be able to think of Steve Buscemi's character when I see a fanny pack now. Sorry, pack wearers :(.

I've been using a Maxpedition Remora when hiking a lot lately. You can sling it over your shoulder in a couple of different ways. I can fit a GPS, camera, cell phone, compass, firearm w/extra mag, power bar, gravity blade, and small binoculars in this guy. Plus it has molle webbing on the sides and a water bottle tie down.

Oh, most importantly, it is a lot more hip than a fanny pack.

p.s. if you follow the link the guy in the photo must be like, a Hobbit or something, 'cause the pack isn't really that big.
