I had posted an invitation for an Intro to Gun Rights Legislation for Michigan members and the training was held today.

The day began with an intro by State Representative Cindy Denby. We then quickly got into a short seminar type program that defined what a lobbyist is and some ways of effectively lobbying given by Pam Benzing.

Then the Chair of the House Tourism, Outdoor Recreation and Natural Resources Committee, Joel Sheltrown, came in to speak on current and future legislation as well as other issues affecting gun rights, including public perception and eduation.

Brad then gave a short discussion of hearing ettiquite and security procedures and then a trek across the street to the House Office Building where we discovered the recently rescheduled hearing had been cancelled. So..back across to the Capitol we went to attend a joint House and Senate hearing on appropriations (not gun related but the processes are the same.)

We then broke for lunch and arrived back in the Speaker's Library at 1:00. At that time, State Senator Michelle McManus spoke on legislation on the Senate side, how bills are created, as well as effective legislation and hunting issues.

Afterwards there was a lot of further discussion of ways to effectively advocate for gun owners, including getting to know those people who will eventually run for statewide office, how to run as a precinct delegate, how to use the information given today in other local venues and the process of surveying candidates.

We then wrapped up. Below are a few pictures. Big thanks to everyone who attended. We will be planning another similar event in the future.

Bragging again about the Virginia Civilian Defense League (vcdl.com) and our president Philip Van Cleave. We hold a Lobby Day at the State Capitol in Richmond that involves training for lobbying the new legislature and then doing it. A few days ago more than 1,000 members showed up. A great organization that's getting results. They go (open packing) but completely gentlemanly (even the ladies), calm, and peaceful to council meetings in cities and towns where the mayor belongs to Bloomberg's bunch of lyin' mayors against guns to make presentations aimed at getting them to resign. That's mainly directed at the council members asking whether they authorized the mayor to represent them in such an organization.
