This was Les Baer's retirement present after 21 years. It was fired 200 times by a gunwriter and 7 times by me, just to say I had shot it. Kind of like the C-96 also.
highpower- Cool 1911, great story. I absolutely love that you took the gun as is and only replaced what was necessary for safe function. Thanks for posting it!
I have a number of .45s but I'd be hard pressed to pick a single favorite. These four are the ones I like the most, one of them is my favorite on any given day. Currently my favorite carry .45 is this Krebs Custom Colt ORM 1991A1 Commander. It's a terrific gun, as accurate and sweet shooting as one would expect a Marc Krebs 1911 to be.
I recently picked up a Kahr CM45. I'm still below the recommended 200 round break in, but so far this little gun has been extremely reliable, and very accurate. Its a fun pistol to shoot, and surprisingly, doesn't beat you up too bad.
I have 4. Two Les Baer, Springfield RO 5" and a SR1911. I carry the SR. They all have been 100% reliable. I'm a range rat and enjoy each as much as the others. They all are more accurate than I.
I agree with C5rider. My favorite would be the Thompson sub-machine gun. That is, if I didn't live in a commie state that won't let me have even a semi-auto version. So my favorite that I do own is my Glock 36.
For me, a dead heat between my Remington R-1 Enhanced and my Ruger Blackhawk Convertible, in either .45auto or .45colt. Both are dead-nuts accurate. Just depends on whether I want to shoot single-action or semi-auto on a given day as to which one I pick out of the safe.
I didn't even think about revolvers when I posted the other day. My favorite .45 revolver is also a Krebs Custom piece called the CROWBAR. It's a S&W M28 Highway Patrolman that was converted from .357mag to .45ACP along with lots of other mods back in the late '80s. It's a very cool wheel gun.
WC145, that's a great piece. I hope you don't mind, but I've saved a copy of that picture a long time ago while thinking about chopping up an old M1917.
I'm considering coverting my 625 to DAO instead.
