I was wondering what 9mm ammo you guys like to carry? I'm looking for something that is reasonably controllable, but will expand and penetrate well also. Thanks!

any of the name brand stuff, designed for self defense,is fine.I carried Federal Hydra-Shok,swapped over to HST when it came out. jwr

Speer 124 grain GDHP. jwr747, is correct though.....just about anything nowadays works as it should. I've tested hydrashok, Golden Saber, Starfire, Silvertips, CorBon, PMC, and Hornady out of my various handguns, and the 'standard' HP all worked well with the exception of the Golden Sabers....I had problems with them in some of MY firearms where some would expand and some didn't. Not sure as to why: I reload them in the same calibers and the expand just fine, and there isn't much difference in velocities between factory rounds and handloads.....but obviously, it's enough to make a difference.

I chose the Speer GDHP because, as a bullet, it was the ones that penetrated the deepest in my test media in all calibers I tested (.380, .38 Special, 9mm, and .38 Super (handload)). I chose to go with the Lead 158 grain SWCHP +P from Remington for the .38 special, as it expanded better and was more accurate to point of aim with my snubbie, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the Gold dots if that was all I could get my hands on.

I keep Cor-bon 125 gr +P in my Glock 26. They also have 115 gr and 90gr, I would probably carry the 115gr but my friendly neighborhood gun dealer only carries the 125 gr. Cor-bon definitely has more bang but I can’t tell a deference in recoil.

I use 135 grain, Federal Hydra-Shok. But, I'm sure any labeled "personal defense" from a name brand manufacturer would be fine.

speer 124+p golddots good ammo and bought a ton at a great price.
~$12.50 per box of 50

Currently my 9mm's are loaded with Federal HST 147gr.Wouldn't hesitate to load Corbon DPX or Winchester Ranger T.

Double Tap - 9mm Luger 147 gr. Speer Gold Dot
is rated at 1,125 FPS -AND- a box of 50 at $28 is a
lot cheaper than the over the counter Speer at 20
rds for $20 and sheeish I live within 30 miles of the
CCI/Speer plant in Lewiston ID

Varies by gun. Some ammo works great in some guns and bad in others.

I generally stick with CorBon - some of my 9's are fed DPX and others are fed PowerBall. (And WWB or Remington yellow box for the range).

9MM carry ammo

In my Glock 26, I use the 9mm Federal LE Tactical Bonded 135gr. +P Hp (LE9T5)
Good stuff, but as popular as the 9mm cartridge is, there are lots of good choices.

First issue is that POI must equal POA.
If that holds true, then without question the single best 9mm currently available as regards optimum penetration plus expansion is the CorBon DPX 115gr+P.

what ever is 100% reliable in my gun, and shots the best for me, the ammo and gun combo, and what is accurate enough to get the job done.

Plain old Gold Dots. I could care less what the Feds are carrying, and don't see the need for +P. And I've seen expansion tests on WWB JHP, and it looks great.

I carry 147gr. Winchester Silvertip and practice with Winchester White Box 147gr JHP since they both shoot to the same point of aim.

I use Federal's Expanding Full Metal Jacket as I never have to concern myself with feed worries and still get the expansion of a HP.

-Cheers

Speer Golddot, 124 grain +p

I am glad to see so many agree with me.

Not saying others are bad, these work well for me in my 92G Centurion
