Speer 124 grain GDHP. jwr747, is correct though.....just about anything nowadays works as it should. I've tested hydrashok, Golden Saber, Starfire, Silvertips, CorBon, PMC, and Hornady out of my various handguns, and the 'standard' HP all worked well with the exception of the Golden Sabers....I had problems with them in some of MY firearms where some would expand and some didn't. Not sure as to why: I reload them in the same calibers and the expand just fine, and there isn't much difference in velocities between factory rounds and handloads.....but obviously, it's enough to make a difference.
I chose the Speer GDHP because, as a bullet, it was the ones that penetrated the deepest in my test media in all calibers I tested (.380, .38 Special, 9mm, and .38 Super (handload)). I chose to go with the Lead 158 grain SWCHP +P from Remington for the .38 special, as it expanded better and was more accurate to point of aim with my snubbie, but I wouldn't hesitate to use the Gold dots if that was all I could get my hands on.
