Pre 1970 Colt and Smith

With Colt the wheels on their bus started wobbling in the early 70's. Some of their revolvers produced after that were crap. I own two from the 70's and have been lucky.

Smith revolvers started a downhill spiral in 1970 and has gotten progressively worse until they are now third in line quality behind Ruger and Taurus.

Its very hard to pick out a brand. Some models are better than others. For instance, I like colt detective specials but not so much colt troopers. I hate full underlug python and anacondas. I like snubnose charter arms. Most rugers I don't care for but I do like speed sixes.

Overall I will have to go with k frame smith and wesson because they have parts interchangeability and they are so unchanged for so long. And they just look good and are easy to work on.

My dad was a Smith & Wesson man for as long as I can remember. Guest I just inherited the gene. :D

But I also like the older Colts from the 1950s, their fit and finish like the Smiths are unequal.

I LOVE my BFR.
Great gun !!! It is very fun to shoot.
I'm suprised more people are not shooting this gun.

I admire many flavors, and own several brands
but nothing else feels quite "just right" in my hand compared to S&W k-frames w/ traditional fat butt checkered walnut 'target' grips, any caliber will do

nothing else hits as well for me, either, but that is really just because it's what I shoot 90% of the time.. why fight it, you know

I'd like to have my old Python back and I really do like Colts. I have a few S&W's that are great, but for the money and the sake of my budget I've become a Ruger fan all the way. Love my old Security Six and the Blackhawks.

Dan Wesson.
No one else offered me the ability to go from a dedicated hunting or target weapon to a snubby carry weapon all in the same package and in only a couple of minutes.

Hard to beat that.

ruger for me. they are durable, reliable and they dont cost me an arm and a leg!

Mine is a Monson built Dan Wesson .44

I didn't even know what it was, the sub $300 price was all I needed to see. Shoots .44 Special like your plinkin with a .22, and Magnums are tamed. 5" fixed barrel, SS.

Old S&W K frames, Ruger Security Six, and Colt Detective Special circa 1971. You couldn't run fast enough to give me a Taurus. I always wanted a Dan Wesson, but never got around to getting one. I think getting married had something to do with it.

For shooting pleasure, Colt (Python and Diamondback).

However, had I the choice of only one revolver, I will always take the Ruger over the Colt. The Ruger is more rugged and reliable.
