What is your favorite gun magazine/publication?

I find most to be just advertisements of the guns they review. Sort of like most automobile magazines.

But my two favorite, which avoid this venue are:

"Small Arms Review": Very interesting publication. Lots of articles about military small arms. Cool pictures. Always down to earth.

"Soldier of Fortune": Ditto.

Small Arms had a very good letter from the editor in the March 2003 edition. About how the 2nd Amendment is all about the right to own military arms and how folks who own the "black rifle" are what the 2nd Amendment is all about. Thought provoking as usual.

American handgunner is ok. So is American rifleman.

The main problem with the gunrags is that they all show the same gun each month and are slaves to the big advertisers
in regards to the gun and equipment reviews.

Small Arms Review. I can't afford anything contained within its pages though..

Combat magazine ( printed in Japan) is slowly taking over the top spot.:D

American Handgunner.

I find it to be full of interesting and usually well written articles. Two bad it only comes out once every two months now :( .

I no longer have a favorite. Alot of times the rags just rehash old stories.."best defensive handgun/shotgun/carbine/sling shot" or "holsters of the future"...even gun reviews are more advertising propaganda than objective review.
I will admit tho, to buying preview editions just to become aware of what lies ahead for the new year.

I like Gun Test but really dont have a favorite.
I usually just glance at the covers, if I see something interesting
I'll buy it. I have not seen SWAT in the magazine racks here.

Mike

Tactical Shooter...well written articles about cool stuff I could use.

Alas, the good die young.

Precision Shooting is pretty good... interesting handloading articles...kinda benchresty tho' (That's the target audience, bonehead!!!).

Don't really get into magazines, unless I'm going to be bored for a while and have nothing else to read or there's a good article in it.

S.W.A.T. is my favorite because it focuses on gunhandling not magic swords.

Handloader I buy one or two per year.

American rifleman because I belong ot the NRA. I read it for the current political situation. IMHO, their actual gun articles have gotten to be as bad as the other rags. i.e., 1911 knockoff du jour.

Soldier of Fortune once or twice per year.

I really consider all of the rest of them uninteresting publications that shill for the products that their advertisers sell.

Gun tests is a great idea, but their budget is so limited that they can't use large enough samples, or diversified enough conditions to have any statistical validity.

I do miss reading Ross Seyfried and Mike Venturino's articles, but I won't buy an entire magazine for one article.

My all time favorite gun mag. is no longer published. Pistolero was in a class by itself. The mag took no advertisements from gun makers and bought all their test pistols on the open market . That way all the evaluations could be non biased, and frank opinions could be given without fear of alienating sponsors. Phil Engledrum and his crew told it like it was, and I guess thats why it is no longer in print.

Out of the magazines left I guess I vote for American Handgunner.

American Handgunner and Combat Handguns. Just ordered subscriptions to both to avoid newstand prices.

I used to read gun mags all the time but quit when I realized their gun tests were, shall we say, something less than critical. I've concluded they are for the most part a waste of ink and paper. The only gun related publication I now read is the American Rifleman which comes with my NRA membership. Its one of the better ones.

Shotgun News. I got tired of all the rest. They were commercial advertisements from the front page to the last page. The Editors never saw a firearm they didn't like.

I stick to Shotgun News now and Forums such as this one here, where I can get all the info and truth about specific firearms from real-world folks.

I like SWAT alot and buy it for the articles. I bought the G&A Surefire Combat Tactics one which I liked a lot too.

Everything else I have bought for the pictures.

I like American Handgunner. For some reason I don't like Shotgun News that much anymore, just charge me .50c and let me read the articles in there.

was shotgun news and handguner and american rifleman ,and handguns and shootingtimes and guns and ammo , and my postal runs every time he sees me ... and ,.........:D

soldier of fortune and combat hand guns. The American rifleman is good. I havent seen small arms review on any stand. I'll have to check it out. I just received my first issue of SWAT and it looks like a keeper. I discontinued Guntests.
