I'll be riding around the Country for a month or so and I wouldn't mind stopping at a Gun Shop to stretch my legs once in a while, mostly west of the Mississippi. My favorite here in MI is Jay's in Clare, there's a big Army Surplus next door too.
So what's the favorite in your home state? Bigger the better.

Collector's Firearms in Houston, Texas, on the southeast corner of Fondren Road and Richmond Avenue, is a firearms museum, except that the exhibits have price tags on them. It is a wonderful place to visit. Not all of the firearms are collectibles, though that is their claim to fame. There are plenty of new firearms.

If you make it out to Nevada stop into Centermass Firearms and say hi to Leon Novak for me
He had a shop here in Delaware but he packed up and went back to Nevada a few summers ago

they have a pretty neat simulation that allows you to use real live ammo in a defensive situation called Prism

Fuquay Gun and Gold in Fuquay Varina, NC.

To the OP, Jays sporting goods in Clare, MI is a fantastic place. I grew up not far from there...

Shyda's Gun shop in Lebanon, Pa. Excellent prices, well stocked, and helpful courteous sales people. In addition there is an attached clothing barn selling brand name outdoor clothes and boots...again good prices.

In Michigan you should visit On Target in Kalamazoo.
If you are a shotgun devotee then go to Jaqua's in Findlay, Ohio - the largest or second largest vault in Ohio all filled with guns.

Ace Sporting Goods in Washington, PA. Excellent selection of firearms with decent prices, only bad thing is ammo is overpriced. Great store though

If you pass through Baton Rouge, check out Jim's on Siegen Lane. Nice and upkept, and probably the size of a small grocery store. I still wish we had something similar here in FL.

If you are headed to VA make sure to go to GreenTop. greentophuntfish.com

They are within 2 miles of a Gander Mtn and Bass Pro and still beat the big guys on prices and selection.

Great Northern Guns in Anchorage has been around for ages and is a great place to visit.

Mountain View Sports has some firearms but worth going to just to see the taxidermy.

Down in Oregon check out the Baron's Den in Eugene and the Gun Works in Springfield. Gun Works has one of the best selections of black powder smoke poles in the region.

Sutter's House of Guns, in Colorado Springs, Colorado was top notch.
Lambert and Smithers located in San Carlos, Ca. TOP of the LINE long guns and shooting supplies, decent to good supply of handguns.

Safe travels..

Murphy's Guns & Gunsmithing in Tucson, AZ. Best shop I've found in the State of Arizona.

In Great Falls, MT, Montana Outfitters on 9th Street North in the back of the Pacific Galleries Antique mall. Lots of older stuff, especially old Winchesters.

Also, in Butte, Bozeman, Missoula, and Helena, Bob Wards usually has a decent selection.

In Lynnwood, WA, Adventure Sports is worth a visit.
