Was wondering what people's favorite match grade .22lr is.

1. Remington target (I have heard that this is not as bad as the Remington Thunderbolt)
2. Eley
3. Aguila
4. Lapua
5. Federal Gold Medal Match
6. Armscor
7. SK
8. CCI
9. Fiocchi

Federal GMM is available locally and has worked well in my Savage Mk IIs, the others would have to be ordered and I am trying decide which one(s) is/are worth trying. I have generally had better results with subsonic rounds.

Where is Remington Thunderbutt...that has to be the most bestest? :neener: Eley for me.

FWIW, Eley Tenex and Lapua Midas win most of the matches IIRC.

:)

if remmy target is orange or yellow box, it is made by eley.
aguila is made by eley, so is golden eagle.
sk, and lapua, are also sold as wolf , I believe.
rws is good , and expensive, so is
Dynamit Nobel
I would not use remmy no matter how well it shot; it is going
to leave your bbl/action so freakin gummy and dirty, it is disgusting.

I'll take Aguila hi velocity, both solid and hollow point. next is a cheapy;
American Eagle, red box, made by Federal, quite good, but can give a flyer or 2.

I just bought a brick of Aguila match pistol last week, when I try it out I will let you know how it shoots out of my trialside. I have also used wolf match target and it was very good but cost twice as much as the Aguila at a local store. For plinking ammo I like the Aguila standard velocity rounds and they shoot exceptionally accurate out of my Marlin 60. They are pretty dirty and have a weird smell though.

My Smith 41 likes Remington Target and IVI standard velocity. It won't cycle any other target ammo.
As with any .22, you have to try a box of as many brands as you can to find the ammo your Savage shoots best. The price of said ammo means nothing. Bolt actions are a bit more forgiving as they don't need the ammo to cycle the action too.
"...others would have to be ordered..." Don't order ammo in bulk until you've tried it in your rifle. Talk to your buddies about a group order. 10 shooters is ideal. There's 10 boxes of 50 in a brick. Then buy a brick of 10 brands that your local shop can get from his suppliers. Each shooter ends up with a brick of assorted brands. Be prepared to pay up front.
"...Aguila..." Made in Mexico. Used to be Remington ammo.
"...have a weird smell..." Vodka. snicker.

technically you are right; but when eley sends you the machining and specs and materials, and tells you how to make it, and then gives you their super secret priming compound, then i say it is an Eley product. Same with golden eagle.
Aguila makes some fine products, very good shooting ammo, and golden eagle is made in america, but they only make 2 diff kinds here; match pistol, and match
rifle.

And yes, that is the famous sickly sweet smell of burning Eley powder...
smells like... victory...

These four work equally well for me. I haven't yet tried Wolf.

CCI Green Tag
Eley Club XTRA
Remington Blue Box Target
Winchester T22 Target

Geno

Federal.

Aguila Match gives me some flyers (that's my story and I'm sticking to it), but otherwise does very well, however it's a bit dirty.

I've not tried the other in the current rifle.

My buddy loves the Lapua.

BTW, I can't believe the prices these days.
