I was looking for some CCI 300 large pistol today at a gunshow and no one had any! Saw lots of remington blue box and winchester, but wasn't sure if they're preferred. Same goes for powder. No one had any good selection.
I have been using Winchester for a few months now. I bought 5000 LP Winchester primers at the last gun show. I have used about 1200 so far and have had 10 go bad. They would not fire on the first strike but usually on the 2nd strike ( these were not light strikes by any means). Maybe I got a bad batch. This never happened before. Does anyone know if Winchester exchange these?
Man I hate hearing that, as I just stocked up on some Winchester pistol primers after decades of almost exclusive CCI use.
After countless bricks of shotshell and metallic primers, I can not remember a single dud, and 95% of these primers have been CCI. I wonder if some sort of storage issue could be the problem? I did notice these new Winchester small pistol primers lack chrome plating like older ones, and are plain brass. I wonder if it is nothing more than a cost cutting measure?
Cannot speak for pistol primers, but the Russian rifle primers are some of the best there is. David Tubbs thinks enough of them that he bought 700,000 of them. I use them for 1k competition, and get very low ES and SD numbers with them.
How about favorite for AR use? I heard one member here say Win primers weren't safe in AR's? I'd just like to standardize my primers to a reputable brand for simplicity's sake and will be buying 10's of k's.
I've used CCI, Remington, Federal, Winchester, Fiocchi, and some Russian made lead free Large Pistol Primers. They all worked just fine. IMO the best one is the least expensive when time to buy.
