Iam really considering sending my 7600 to Jess to have it rebored to 35 whelen . How do you like your 35 whelen ? I have been considering it for a few years. But my 7600 shoots really well so I haven’t done it yet.
If I had a 7600 it would be a 35 whelen. I love my whelen, it's a savage 110 I spun a new shaw barrel on. Shoots cast really nice for fireforming the brass and plinking. Cheap to shoot that way.Iam really considering sending my 7600 to Jess to have it rebored to 35 whelen . How do you like your 35 whelen ? I have been considering it for a few years. Adcoch1 the 270 win is based off the 30/06 .
Gorgeous collection, but those last two especially tug at my heart strings. Also for fun the .30 calibers fall in the favorites category.
mostly .30-06’’s with a .308, M1 Rock Ola carbine, and. .30-40 Krag.View attachment 1157497 View attachment 1157498 View attachment 1157499 View attachment 1157500 View attachment 1157501 View attachment 1157502 View attachment 1157503
I’m the same way. I’m usually pretty logical about cartridge selection. I really like 308, 6.5 Creedmoor and 300 Win Mag. All three are common and easy to find ammo for. They would honestly give me all the performance I need and I have multiple rifles in each of those chamberings, but 6.5x55 is just old school cool and I like it. Same with my 250 Savage. I also have a stupid fascination with 257 Weatherby and 257 Roberts. Hell, I like em all, I guess.I’ve been scratching my head over this one for a while, not quite sure where I would land.
I’m typically quite rational and objective, so “why I like a cartridge” tends to be based objectively on performance in a given application; the application which I might enjoy only for some subjectivism.
But I do come back to 45-70 in my mind each time I read this thread, as well as 416 Rigby. Thinking now as I’m writing this, I REALLY like the 17 MachIV, for no good reason, and considering the MachIV, I REALLY like the 17HM2 also - also for no good reason. I’ve always wanted a bolt action 17HM2, and really want to convert a Ruger Mark IV to it as well, for absolutely no reason.
And kicks like a Mule!!!But whether full-power or down-loaded to .35 Winny levels, it’s a super-versatile cartridge in a handy, quick-pointing envelope.

For me it's the .270 Win.
Yes, I drank the Jack O'Connor Kool-Aid over half a century ago, and frankly it tastes just as good today as it did back then.
Agreed! As I said in my earlier post, I think the .308 Win does everything so well it's almost boring. For me, it's the perfect cartridge for hunting and target shooting.
The 7mm Remington Express will do everything the 280 Remington will do, and it has a more impressive name.280 Remington because that’s what I’ve got.
