HOUSTON -- An FBI agent in town for Super Bowl security became a crime victim when his pickup truck was stolen with his credentials and gun inside, News2Houston reported in an exclusive story Wednesday.
The agent had just checked into Holiday Inn, 7787 Katy Freeway at Silber, when his truck was stolen from the parking lot around 6:30 p.m. Saturday. He was carrying baggage to his room, and when he returned to the parking lot, the truck was gone.

"Every 2.1 seconds, we have a vehicle stolen, and it certainly was 2.1 seconds before he got back to the vehicle to continue the unloading process when the vehicle was stolen," said Bob Doguim, with the Houston office of the FBI.

The stolen vehicle was found about six hours later in the 7400 block of Fir in southeast Houston. Most of the items inside were gone, including the agent's 9mm Glock, FBI credentials, Hazmat suit and helmet

FBI officials said the theft is not a breach in Super Bowl security.

"(There was) no kind of credentials that offer access into anything with regards to the Super Bowl," Doguim said.

The FBI's primary concern is the missing weapon.

"Certainly, there's more focus on the situation, especially when you have the Super Bowl right around the corner," Doguim said.

Houston police said they are questioning a man in connection with the theft, but did not call him a suspect.

The agent is with the FBI's Hazmat team from San Antonio.

I have a better story for you.
I used to be a security guard at a large shopping mall. One day, a customer calls our dispatch office and tells us his 6 year old son just found a gun on the back of one of our toilets.
Long story short, the gun is retrieved(.40 Glock), and we turn it over to the local PD. Turns out it is registered to DOJ.
A short while later we recieve a call from a man who identifies himself as DOJ, and tells us, "I think I may have left my weapon in your restroom."
He was very unhappy to find it had been turned over to the PD.
Hopefully he got a new hole chewed when his boss found out.

I am an armed guard,one day at work I used the restroom,as I walked out of the bathroom I had this weird feeling of something being wrong.
Thats when I reached for my glock to give it a comforting pat on it's ugly little grip,
I had left it in there. Luckilly I was the only guy in the locked building,hence the only guy in the restroom.

Thats what makes it so bad to have off limits places for CCW holders.

At one time or another we have to go places where it is illegal to carry
and must secure the weapon in the vehicle.

The possibility of the car getting stolen along with the gun is 1000 times more dangerous than a CCW holder carrying in a school, park, restaurant
etc...

As an aside, when I feel the call of nature I put the gun down in my pants.
So there is no way to forget it.

I got news for this dork, that ID is probably worth more than the gun to some folks. Besides, one more gun on the street isn't going to change anything regarding criminals.

whats with all these feds not having their sidearm on ther person (after the much talked about miami bank action) you would think that rule #1 in a gunfight (have a gun) would be drilled, or is this another case of a too deadly for civilian select fire long arm gone missing? when I was LEO if my sidearm was with me it was on me

"He was away from the car for more than 2.1 seconds. So, logically, it makes sense that his vehicle was stolen." It's knuckleheads like this one who reason that you can get a baby per month if you go get nine women pregnant today...

Dang! It occurs to me that my truck's been in the parking lot for ::checks:: 2 hours and 30 minutes so far today. By our esteemed Houston FBI Agent's reasoning, it's been stolen...::calculate, calculate::...almost 4,300 times. Today. Apparently the thieves don't like it very much, because they keep putting it back.

BTW, I'd bet quite a large stack of dollars that the agent whose badge and gun were stolen left the vehicle unlocked when he went inside.

If so, he should be terminated with extreme prejudice for leaving his weapon and his badge alone without even a modicum of security.

Federal Credentials will get you just about anywhere, even in the secured area of an airport. Are they trying to say that FBI agents will need something different when on official business to enter the Reliant Arena grounds?

jsalcedo: EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!! That's why my "truck gun" is a PA63-well used. I'd much rather it was stolen than my G 19, which is my preferred ccw piece. I don't want any of my firearms getting into the hands of criminals, but when I have to leave it in my LOCKED vehicle...........

If he was drinkng a beer at the game, he would not have been alowed to carry and therefore would have had to leave it in the car. I'm suprised that some of the "Responsible" CCW holders didn't think of that, or is it more acceptable to drink armed for non LEOs...

Thing is the game hasnt been played yet so i doubt he was having a brew at the game and it did say he was in town for secuirty for super bowl soo again i dont think he was boozing it up at the time maybe im wrong

OK we have all probably left a weapon in our vehicle at one time or another.

But as for leaving his ID & badge! What a bleeping MORON! He should have parking lot duty on Super Bowl Sunday. Give him some white gloves and one of those little day glow vests that say TRAFFIC on it and make him WORK for a day.

So, there are roughly 41,143 vehicles stolen each and every day. That's 15,017,195 vehicles stolen every year. I say again, according to the FBI, there are fifteen million, seventeen thousand, one hundred and ninety-five vehicles stolen annually.

Gee whiz! I didn't know the crime rate was so bad, that there've been more than 75,000,000 acts of grand theft auto in the last five years! Maybe I ought to buy The ClubTM!
