I came into some of this ammo recently and recall reading all the stories about its legendary street record for stopping attackers.

I also recall that it was something of an over-expander and failed the FBI test protocol for reasons of "poor" penetration. Does anyone have any actual testing results in gel or water for this load, I'm having trouble locating anything useful.

Thanks.

I do remember a website that had tests of it vs bare water jugs, and the round had a tendency to "turn inside out" where the expanded head nearly encapsulated the base of the bullet! Unfortunately, I can't seem to find it now. As for penetration, all the data I've seen people throw about say 10-12" is its penetration range, edging on average more towards 10". Surprisingly, it still seems to work very well for convincing BG's that they don't want to keep messing with you. I personally stoke all my 9mm at this time with this stuff.

I think the "inside out" thing was from this site:

I plan on making this my 9mm carry load too, everything I have read about it (with the exception of shooting through barriers) is extremely positive.

Yes, this ammo is extremely accurate in everything I've run it through, from P01s, BHPs, USPs to Walther P5s, great ammo, excellent rep on the street also. I've talked w/ agencies that used it in the past and were very pleased w/it.
It and the Blackhills EXP are my favorites in 9mm.

9BPLE is my carry load and has been for about 10yrs.

The local police dept used it for many years until they switched to the .40 S&W. They had a quite a few shootings with it and afterwards no one ever doubted its effectiveness. Of course the Border Patrol issued 9BPLE for a long time as well and it performed for them. Countless other small and big town police depts have issued this round and it has performed.

In a world of constantly changing theroys about the "effectiveness" of handgun ammo, one thing is a FACT, the Federal 9BPLE is EFFECTIVE.

Somewhere I've got the information. I last thought about it when the .357 SIG round came out. Turned out that the 9BPLE comes very close to the same ballistics, which pretty well convinced me I didn't need to fool with a newfangled bottlenecked round.

I have some of it on hand and it works nicely in my BHP. I think it would do well enough in a pinch...
