Info on any 22 ammo would be nice.

round nose or hollowpoint cci minimags at $12/100, 10 box limit, free shipping on orders over $99. quiet, blazer, standard, velocitor are available too. https://www.cci-ammunition.com/rimfire/

i’m a diehard rimfire shooter, especially as i age and centerfire ammo costs $1/each these days. i often carry a 22lr handgun for protection in my tame locales. i really cannot get excited over federal punch ammo: hard to find, uneven federal quality, a bit insulting to introduce new ammo during a drought... a consistently accurate series of double taps to centermass of reliable and accurate minimags simply works, for me anyway.

Many will attack your stand on the .22 for S/D.

I am not one,as I hit 74 in 2 months, and yes if you live long enough the measly .357 will seem to be a PITA to shoot a box of combat training [ like yesterday with a bruise on my thumb ].

So if you can keep your head and make THE SHOTS that count, then I see the .22 as doing the job.

I am still gtg with lots of .9MM but even that might fade.

I bought 2 Beretta .32's and they could be the gun I fade too in another decade ----- or more,I hope.

btw , in 2013 I had the total shoulder replaced, along with 2 total knees a few years prior.

I can shoot anything now, took a while to heal all up.

I'll never disparage anyone who carries, with determined mindset, a capable .22 handgun for defense.

I don't find the Federal Punch to be especially intriguing, given the record .22 already has for stopping typical criminal attacks; it's already very high. If I decide to carry a rimfire pocket gun, I'm fine with my PT-22 Taurus and its nine 40-grain MiniMags. I wouldn't opt for the Punch, at its current price point, if I was looking for .22LR ammo and found MiniMags or AutoMatch, which would likely sell for less.

I tried some the other day using my NAA Mini, my Ruger LCR 22LR, my crappy old Phoenix Arms HP22A, and my Henry Youth lever-action rifle. I had also picked up some CCI Velocitors for comparison, and for “control” used my Federal Champion bulk pack.

The Punch was slightly hotter than the Champion, but I barely noticed it except in the Mini. Interestingly enough I got a consistent fireball out of the LCR when firing the Punch, but not the other ammo. The Velocitors were noticeably hotter than the Punch in all the guns, even the Henry.

No light strikes except in the Phoenix, my poor benighted Ring of Fire junk gun - and all ammo had at least one light strike in the Phoenix.

Hard to see what all the hoopla is about, but then again I didn’t do any gel testing or meat targets - just paper at my indoor range. FWIW.

If physical limitations relegate me to rimfire for SD, I’d use 22WMR. The ammo seems more consistent in reliability and it’s more powerful with barely more recoil than .22LR.

The concept of a Stinger with a non- expanding bullet and properly calibrated powder definitely has some merit, but I am not sure if Federal actually hit the mark with the Punch. It would be interesting to compare with loads like the existing 40 gr SGB.

Keltec PMR 30 for me. The Speer Gold dots are specifically made to expand from a 2" barrel.

I carry the PMR when I'm out doing some lite work off in the woods or field. 25 rounds of 22WMR should take care of any small critter I may need to dispatch of.

I carry a Ruger LCP2 in 22lr and don't care what some say about "that's not enough". Anything is better and hopefully just having one [gun] will cause a bad guy to leave [best scenario].

First, off, I like the idea but idk how it actually compares to the federal automatic that already penetrates stupidly good, second:
Just advertising, a whole new line of self defense ammo, .22 and centerfire.
Introduced in a panicdemic when they can't keep up with orders for the regular stuff.

in my region, ammo is beginning to populate, not the "regular" supply, but more than has been seen in months, .224, shotgun, 556, 9mm, 38 sp, 41, .454, even a case or two of primers, a boatload of .40, etc etc, rimfire means no center-fire primers, and also as things begin to populate, we have demand and a scared public, this is the perfect time to launch, ammo industry is a business and this is smart, period! For the last idk how many months the ONLY rimfire pistols available were the heritage revolvers and the S333 in my area, from kids who will buy anything, to folks scared who will buy everything, to someone needing a true sd rimfire, there is a definite profit here, and this is a great time to launch!

'cept for them raccoons and rabid wombats and drop bears ;)!

It does indeed seem like a bad time to introduce something like that. But then I realized that things like this take a couple years at least because of all the product development, testing, and related stuff like the marketing and promotion of it. I'd wager that this concept began at least one year prior to the pandemic and was well along by the time Covid struck. Then they weren't sure how long the pandemic would be and at first it seemed that we could "flatten the curve" in short order. So they forged ahead and were surprised by how long and how hard the pandemic hit. By that time they had so much time and money invested that they may have decided to wait it out and now the pandemic is subsiding and here they have their new product ready to go. They'll probably sell it as fast as they can make it. I hope to try some of it eventually but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting. Sounds like a neat concept even though I'm pretty well set for years on 22LR ammo. Never carried a 22 LR gun for SD but if I had to I could use a S&W 2206 Target model with a magazine full of Federal Auto Match. A 22LR at typical self defense range is a lot more formidable than most folks give it credit for.

Well the Federal website has them available, I ordered some and am going to try them in a couple pistols, I know in my revolver it will probably be ok, the semi-auto is the one I have questions on. Will be a good excuse for an extra range trip or even better a trip to the son's property.
