My '03 SAR-1 has a feeding problem. When I chamber a round, the nose of the bullet hits the backside of the barrel and then feeds successfully. This is a non-issue except that the bullet becomes deformed and it affects accuracy.

Question, what can I do to remedy this? Can I re-contour this area of the barrel as to make a less flat edge (feed ramp of sorts) or will this affect chamber support?

Please help me with this, I really want to get it sorted out.

Thanks.

Sorry I haven't kept up with all the variations and names on the new stuff. What is an "03 SAR-1" when it is at home?

Oh, sorry. I am used to posting on the AK forums. It is a Romanian variant of the AK-47. It most closely resembles the original Russian AK-47. It is a 2003 model I bought new.

Thanks.

The AK generally does not give feeding problems. Have you tried other magazines, maybe a Russian or Chinese? If it is not the magazine, it could be the feed ramp. Remove the receiver cover and the recoil spring and just work the bolt by hand, watching how the round is directed by the feed ramp. The round should be pointed right into the chamber. If it is not, the ramp may need polishing or some reshaping.

FWIW, bullet nose damage is not a great cause of inaccuracy, bullet base damage or barrel end point damage is much worse.
