Do you insert the mag and pull back and release the slide

I prefer that way since I like the slightly extra launch with the "sling-shot".
Just enough extra energy for a nice rack, IMHO....:)

My 2 cents:

I have owned several 1911s of different manufacture including a (Mil Spec)Champion. It gave me no problems; before or after I customized it to my taste.

I tend to agree that guns should work out of the box. I observe that they seem to work better after a couple hundred rounds. 1911's seem to have always been this way. Maybe it takes that for me to get tuned to the gun.

I use either Chip McCormick power mags or Wilson Combat exclusively; they work for me. there are others, I suppose, but I stopped where it was working for me. I have had bad experiences with everybodys' factory mags, and just don't use them anymore. Maybe the QC questions ought to be put to mag suppliers...There are three ss Chips in the bottom of my range bag though...(I also stopped using blue mags...)

Point is, I have had guns which would work with one and not the other, both factory and custom, and both ways. I don't know why. I usually designated the mags that worked for that gun and that gun only. Your original problem seems to be solved by a mag change. Hoo-rah.

Have you tried the Wilsons? They usually solve all problems. Chips' cheaper, but not by much; I like both types new carry style basepads.
Cheers, TF
