Feeling the call of the "Dark Side"... Trade Sig 1911 towards AR-15?

I would say keep your 1911, and if you have funds available buy an AR of your choice. the 24-inch barrel is a bit long. Usually a 20'' would suffice for any long range work.

But if you really liked the Bushmaster and have no real use for the 1911, go for it.

My experience with bushmasters leads me to believe that for the money there are better guns. For an all round gun I would get a PSA for $750. It is a real solid gun for the money and IMHO a better buy than the Smiths.

Although PSA is a good brand, I don't think they are "better" than S&W or Bushmasters. I would say they are on par. I've had both PSA and Bushmaster, and the Bushmaster M4 was an excellent rifle in my experience. PSA is good, but they are a newer company, more of an up-and-coming manufacturer. If I can afford PSA, I'd rather go with Spikes or BCM parts.

MacTech, I have a Sig 1911 railed TacPac and Bushmaster 20" HBAR flattop. After having shot a lot of 1911s the past 25 years, I will never sell my Sig TacPac (yes, I like it that much). It replaced the full-size M&P45 for nightstand duty along with Mossberg 590 (M&P45 is being sold to be replaced with a newer model when S&W comes out with M&P45 with new trigger).

My wife has her choice of Glock 22/23/27 for her nightstand with soon to be finished 16" AR upper for .300 BLK.

I would not sell the Sig 1911 and would always suggest a shotgun for HD purposes. If you have not, I would suggest you consider the .300 BLK option for the AR later after prices come down.

I love 24 inch Bull barrels but when you say "...it basically looks like a long-barreled M-16..." I'm thinkin' heavy barrel and that's a bit less desirable to me, especially not knowing the blank manufacturer or the barrel finisher.

I'm not seeing what sounds like a mutt-gun being a fair trade for the SIG especially if the rife in it's current form is not something you already wanted.

It's cheap enough (here's me, spending your money:D) and gratifying to roll-yer-own AR if you take your time.

Then there's all the advice - and good - above regarding cheaper still alternatives to an AR.

I can't help but see future regret and eternal chasing of a replacement SIG "at the right price" in your future should you trade.
