The stock PA-63 was something of a double whammy to me - big hump AND a recessed web area. That made it difficult for me to snug the web of my hand up underneath the beavertail without some serious contortions.
Now it fits me great. But I like Glocks, so take that for what it's worth.
Regarding the park job, thank you. I had no idea it would come out looking so nice with such a minimal effort. And it FEELS nice, too! I like it so much, I wish I could guy some nice wood grips for it. But then they wouldn't fit because of the backstrap. Doh!
Thought I'd share this little nugget, while I'm at it.
Besides all the obvious smoothing, I found out the major source of grit on my gun's SA trigger. It was the trigger return spring.
The top of the trigger return spring is kinda funky, where it goes out sideways and hooks into the trigger bar. The overall width of my trigger return spring was too much. So the left side of the spring was rubbing against the frame. I bent the top of the spring into a little hint of a "V" to reduce the overall width. This eliminated pretty much all the grit and creep from the SA trigger pull.
Mine is a great little shooter. I changed the springs out and what a difference. Bought some bubinga wood grips from Marschals in Hungary. Ammo is cheap and I bought a set of dies to reload for it.
I have one. With the stock springs, the DA trigger pull was about 50lbs, and recoil was like a .44mag. After swapping the springs, the DA trigger is still heavy but is now manageable, and recoil is far, far less. It's still not a gun you'd want to fire hundreds of rounds through at once, but there are now no problems with putting 50-100 rounds through it for practice.
I actually carried it the other day for the hell of it. It was certainly a lot more comfortable than my usual Springfield EMP (of course, 9mm+p ballistics slaughter any 9x18 offering).
Given that you can now get a pa-63 for $140, and do the spring swap for $10, I think it's a great value for anyone looking for a cheap but quality carry gun or "truck" gun.
My PA-63 is one of my favorite guns to shoot. I swapped the recoil spring for the strongest one Wolff makes, and the hammer spring for a 13-pounder. The 11-pounder gives light strikes pretty much all the time, but the 13-pound one is 100% with S&B ammo. Just a great little gun. Definitely my favorite of my 9x18 guns, which also include a Bulgarian Makarov and a Polish P-64. I normally carry the P-64, though. The PA-63 is a little too large for me to conceal well and it's too long for my Makarov holsters, whereas the Makarov and P-64 can both use same molded holster.
