Along with used GLock 22 at the gunshow this weekend I also picked up a FEG PA63. J&G had them for a measly $99, so I figurwed it why not. The DA triger pull is almost as bad as the Kel Tec P11. The SA is pretty good though. I am not using this gun for CCW just a range gun. I also bought 2 extra mags and 200 rounds of 9x18. I was wondering if anyone can lead me to instructions on field stripping the gun and any other general info and shooting impressions. When I get it to the range I'll let you all know how it shoots.

PA 63. Nice little pistol.
Field-stripping is similar to a Walther or a Makarov....Make sure pistol is unloaded. Remove magazine and lower the trigger guard and slide it to the side so it catches on the frame in the down position. Then pull the slide back past the point you would normally think the slide stops and carefully lift the slide over the barrel hood...be careful as the hood is aluminum, and may get damaged by the steel of the slide. Then push the slide off toward the front. You can remove the spring from the barrel. Watch the slide stop on the left side of the pistol..it has a tendency to fall of and is a bear to put back in the first time.

Go to makarov.com for some info. Consider upgrading the mainspring to a lighter one, therefore greatly decreasing the ungodly DA trigger pull.

Have fun!!!
:)

Don't put that little spring back in upside down, it will fit but the slide won't lock on your last shot.

Had one briefly. Ditto the trigger, and the recoil was a bit snappy, I thought, prob'ly 'cause of the alloy frame being lighter than the Mak.

Editted to add:

It does look very "shaken, not stirred", though, doesn't it?

.45Ruger,
If you are not going to use it for a carry piece, you could call Wolf Springs (if I remember it right), they sell hammer springs for the PPK and they fit right in. They have several weights and you can make the double action pull very easy if you like. If I remember correctly they have a recommended weight and some that are much lighter. Also when I purchased mine, several people where cutting one to two coils off of the hammer spring and lightening the pull that way. If you are going to do it that way, I would recommend cutting 1/2 to one coil at a time and then testing it at the range, you may get light primer strikes. I just ordered all of the weight springs available from Wolf and played till I got what I wanted. I think I paid about $15.00 for all of them.

Hope this helps and sorry for the long post,

I've got one. You may consider painting the sights to make them more visible, since they are so small.
I hate the stock grips, since I have large hands. I got a set of new ones from Makarov.com and they are much better but am still trying to get around to cutting some custom ones from some wood I have.
It's nice and light but that cuts down on the mass and makes it a wee bit snappy when shooting. Definitely get a new recoil spring. They also sell good manuals on the PA-63 at Makarov.com.
I've put several hundred rounds through mine and haven't had any light strikes or failures of any kind.
Enjoy:D

Thanks for the advice everyone, painting the sights was the first thing I did and I may get the wolf springs but first I want to try and see if I can shoot the gun the way I bought it. I bought this gun as kind of a cheap historical momento of the cold war so I would like to shoot it as it came.

I intend to get a stronger recoil spring as mine are VERY snappy when you pull that trigger.Dont be turned off by the heavy first trigger pull, its just a temporary annoyance until round TWO!
