There also seems to be an inherent assumption in your selections that women somehow need a "smaller" firearm instead of one that works for them. Personally, I don't find the PPK all that pleasant to shoot. Given the choice between the two, I imagine more than a few women would take the Glock 20.
I tend to mostly agree with this, adding a couple caveats. One, women
usually like short, light, low recoil rifles (.223-7.62x39/30-30). They usually don't have the strength or body mass to hold heavier rifles properly and tame the recoil. This leads to less accuracy and frustration. Best thing to do is let the lady
try a couple rifles (including some of the bigger ones) and let her make the choice. Just let her play with them, get a feel for the weapon itself. It doesn't matter if she's hitting ten rings or not.
A pistol caliber carbine she's good with and likes to shoot, is better than a .308 she hates. Then again, don't shelter her just because "she's a girl". She may love a FAL. My niece does.
As far as the PPK, she may like the way it fits her hand. Most guys don't like small pistols because they can't get their whole hand around it, causing it to move under recoil. I hear guys complain all the time about pinkies hanging off the grips. If the lady has small hands, it may fit her perfect. The PPK isn't a light gun and 32ACP has little recoil. It's the ergos that make it uncomfortable to shoot. Ergonomics are very subjective.
Lots of women like 1911s. I don't know why, but I suspect it may have to do with the thin frame, allowing them to get a good, firm grip on it.
