Female SHTF rifle that needs to be filled

There also seems to be an inherent assumption in your selections that women somehow need a "smaller" firearm instead of one that works for them. Personally, I don't find the PPK all that pleasant to shoot. Given the choice between the two, I imagine more than a few women would take the Glock 20.
I tend to mostly agree with this, adding a couple caveats. One, women usually like short, light, low recoil rifles (.223-7.62x39/30-30). They usually don't have the strength or body mass to hold heavier rifles properly and tame the recoil. This leads to less accuracy and frustration. Best thing to do is let the lady try a couple rifles (including some of the bigger ones) and let her make the choice. Just let her play with them, get a feel for the weapon itself. It doesn't matter if she's hitting ten rings or not.

A pistol caliber carbine she's good with and likes to shoot, is better than a .308 she hates. Then again, don't shelter her just because "she's a girl". She may love a FAL. My niece does.

As far as the PPK, she may like the way it fits her hand. Most guys don't like small pistols because they can't get their whole hand around it, causing it to move under recoil. I hear guys complain all the time about pinkies hanging off the grips. If the lady has small hands, it may fit her perfect. The PPK isn't a light gun and 32ACP has little recoil. It's the ergos that make it uncomfortable to shoot. Ergonomics are very subjective.

Lots of women like 1911s. I don't know why, but I suspect it may have to do with the thin frame, allowing them to get a good, firm grip on it.

Mine does.

I'm in the process of deciding on rifles myself. My fiancee's opinion will play a large role as I'd like her to be able to use them as well. I prefer the idea of interchangable mags and ammo. If the S does HTF your going to be stuck with what you have. To me its better to purchase 100 AR mags and 5000 rds of 5.56 instead of mags for 10 different rifles and 500 rds of ammo for each.

This is my wifes rifle. She's about 5'3" 100lbs.

It weighs around 7lbs fully loaded. She shoots it well and it's her favorite rifle.

I had contemplated getting her a M1 Carbine, but I am happy we went with this instead. Since the AR15 is my weapon of choice, we can share/swap mags, ammo, and parts. It's still a potent round, and I don't have to add a new caliber to the arsenal.

:)

Women tend to like shooting the PS90. I took my sister in law shooting with it, and she's never touched a gun in her life before.

I can't really see the point of the P90. IMO, it's a clever solution to a non-existent problem. Ammo isn't all that cheap, and ballistically it's only slightly better than a 22 WMR. It's the perfect weapon for those who feel a 22 hornet is just too powerful for a combat rifle. And I really tried to like the thing. It does look cool on TV, however.

Lets look at the numbers. These are from Federal Cartridge and are as close as I could get in bullet weight.

22 WMR CCI 30 grain at 2,200 = 322 ft-lbs

SS190 31 grain at 2,345 fps = 379 ft-lbs

22 hornet 33gn at 3100fps = 704 ft-lbs

223 40gn bullet at 3700fps = 1216 ft-lbs

Here we go again. I'm not even gonna waste my time going into the 5.7 round again. The 5.7 haters will never be convinced...

I don't hate the 5.7, I just don't see the point. The number don't lie. I had a FiveseveN for a while because I thought it was interesting, but I can't see what niche it fills other than as a small varmint round. The same is true for the P90. Probably great for gophers.

Convince me that it is a useful combat round.

You are entitled to your opinion. All the arguments back and forth go on for pages on all of the various forums. I'm not gonna add to it by typing pages of text.

But, I like my PS90, and if I needed something bigger than a handgun, it's my go to rifle. I am satisfied with it.
