So, Dad and I are attempting to get our FFL, and start a little gunshop. I was going thru and filling paperwork out, and came to the question has anyone in your business had a FFL? My dad did in the 70's- early 80's, but is trying to dig up some old paperwork to try to answer the specifics. I called the ATF this morning and asked the lady what specifics they wanted, and she replied, the name the FFL was under, dates held, and license number. I asked her if I gave her the name and address, if she could look it up, if we couldn't find the info, to which she replied "our computer system only goes back to 2000". My question is should I just answer no to the question, if there are no records, or would it be beneficial to get all the info, to help things along? I was doing research on these guaranteed FFL deals, and after talking to a friend that has his, he said it's just a waste of money if you aren't in a hurry. He just did all the paperwork himself, and said it took approx 3-4 months, but that was in 2003....

The only correct answer to the question, "Should I lie on my government application?" is always "no." So there's no reason to keep this open on the off chance that some folks will come up with silly rationalizations about why it would be okay to lie or how you could best get away with it.
