My brother graduated this summer from Duke medical school and he settled down in Wake Forest, North Carolina with his wife and 2 month old baby boy. I wanted to give him one of my CMP M1 Garands for a graduation present. He will love shooting it with his father-in-law, who is a retired sargeant major who lives in South Carolina.

Does anyone know a good FFL/gun shop in the Wake Forest area to do the transfer for me? I just need to mail it to the FLL and get my brother to go pick it up and do the paperwork since it is an interstate change of ownership.

Thanks much.

Awesome, thanks much. I didn't know Gunbroker had a database like that. I'll check it out.

I grew up in durham, and my folks moved back to NC (wake forest to be exact) in march. and i have to make a small comment on Davi's, most of the folks i'm still in contact with in the Raleigh area tell me that the shop has made a change for the worse since '99 (when i was last there) specificly that it has become, as they put it, "over run with 'gunshop commando' types" and that Personal Defense & Handgun Safety Center is a better place to deal with.

buut as always in such things YMMV and i'll admit that i no longer have any direct experience. but i hoping that in a few years when i DO get back to the area that i'll still be able to find a decent shop and a decent outdoor range.

I don't have anything against Davi's, but personally I prefer doing business with PDHSC. Mike Tilley owns and runs the shop, and he's great to work with. Last time I asked him (back in March) he was charging $30 for FFL transfers.

My personal favorite shop in the area though is Perry's Guns in Wendell (which would be closer to Wake Forest). Perry's tends to offer more to hunters and shotgunners, while PDHSC is a little more on the Milsurp/Tactical side. Both have an excellent selection of pistols. Perry generally has more used guns and keeps more in stock, mostly I think because he has more room. The only downside about Perry's place is that he doesn't have an indoor range.
