FFL Transfer Agents IL..

Hi All. I live in a suburb of Chicago about 20 miles outside downtown Chicago. I am looking for a good FFL transfer agent that won't kill me on the cost. Last month I transfered in an O/U shotgun from a dealer in KS ( Got a great price ) and I did the transfer with R/R Shooting sports in Westchester IL. He told me the tansfer was $40, but when the gun came in about 45 days after my initial visit to the shop he charged me $60! What a rip. I want an FFL agent that will take multiple transfer for a good price.

I'm kinda surprised to hear that about uncle ronnie. Though, as you know, he's a little on the strange side. He probably forgot what he told you. You can try midwest in Lyons, but if you are transfering something they have or can get you'll take a beating on it. You might go to midwest in Downers Grove, they tend to be a little more relaxed. Other than that, you have Gat Guns, not sure about them though. Last I heard Chucks was going or is out of business. Can't think of anyone else that isn't very far away. Hope this helps.

You are correct Ron is a bit strange ( Nice, But strange ). The only reason I went there was because he is about 5 minutes from my house, so I thought I'd give him a try. His shop is a wreck with papers, dust, shell casings, etc all over the place and it probably wasn't cleaned since he opened 20 years ago. It also smelled so bad of cigarette smoke. I think he smokes 24/7. His gun selection was less than adequate. He actually had a CZ .40 cal (new) which I liked, but he was asking about $60 dollars above MSRP + tax. I am very familier with Midwest as I've bought a few guns from them. I called there last week and talked to a woman that told me transfers were $50 and it doesn't matter how many guns you want to transfer in? I have a hard time believing that. The reason I would buy out of state of off the web is for better pricing. So far the best prices I've found on what I'm looking for is Gander Mountain in Geneva and GAT in Dundee. The only thing is that GAT charges an upcharge on the guns if you use credit card. Gander doesn't.

THEB - I tried www.gunbroker.com for the listing, but here at my office the computer firewall won't let me download anything about weapons, etc. I'm surpirsed THR comes up. I'll try when I get home.

There is a guy just south of Chicago that will do transfers for $20. I did one with him last summer and I got a P229 coming in next week. Shoot me a PM for his e-mail addy.

Telli, you probably talked to Kristin. Not smart; of course I am slightly biased. But yes, it's a flat fee for howver many firearms they can fit on a form. Try Midwest out in Downers Grove. Talk to Dominic and only Dominic.

I am out in Colorado right now going to the Colorado School of Trades. But when in Illinois (depending on what I want to shoot) I go to Midwest for pistol work or Willow Sleugh in Indiana for rifles.

Spacecowboy: Thanks for the referral to Dominic at Midwest (Downers). I will also stop by to see him. How is he on prices? Here is my short list I want to buy in the next 30 days: SA 1911 .45 ACP Loaded version SS or Parkerized, SW .357 model 686 or 620 with a 4" barrel, Glock G21 .45ACP, and a Beretta 92 series 9mm or .40 SS.
