Looks great! Best of luck with it! :)

I've always had a real soft spot for the M1 carbine after watching the Bridges of Toko-Ri and To Hell and Back when I was a kid.

Now that I own one I really appreciate how light and handy it is. It's like the 22 plinker most of us had as a kid, but with a punch. Folks put the 30Carbine down, but compared to a handgun, or even other pistol caliber carbines it's deadly out to 100 - 150 yards. I know I can't shoot a handgun out that far and hit anything.

As for the Wolf ammo. I've shot nearly a case through my Inland and it works fine. Accuracy is nothing to write home about though.

If you traded a stock 10/22 for your M1 Carbine, you came out ahead, even though the Plainfield is a commercial copy, not a GI gun.

Plainfield made among the best of the commercial copies. They are compatible with GI parts. I highly recommend picking up a copy of Jerry Kuhnhausen's shop manual.

I've put a limited amount of Wolf .30 Carbine through a 1943-vintage Underwood M1 Carbine. It functioned OK in my gun but it was downloaded quite a bit compared with US made ammo. It's also dirty. Clean the chamber before shooting any brass cased ammo after you shoot Wolf, or you may encounter extraction problems.

nice carbine, ive had two of the plainfields both were reliable. i put the m1a stock on them . the military bayonet lug also fits, sold both for a profit.

Wow! I would trade my stock 10/22 any day for an M1 Carbine. Great job.

watch the Wolf ammo... I had extraction problems with the 250 rounds I put through my Auto Ordinance. 1 out 4 to 5 would jam up.
But other than that you pulled off a great trade. Now go pick up another 10/22:neener:

Looks like a good trade. The M1 Carbine is a great gun, IMO. I recently bought my first M1 Carbine, after many years of wanting one. It's a Rock Ola with a really beat up stock, but it still has a crossed cannon cartouche, and a couple of grooves carved into the bottom. I tried to post a pic, but for some reason it's not letting me.

Congrats on the nice trade.

thanks for all the compliments, dont get me wrong the 10/22 i traded was nice but i just got bored with it becs its too easy to shoot once i zero at 50yds and 100yds theres no more thrill for me, I got what i paid for it and i shot probably 2000 rounds through it so i had my fun with it..any suggestions on where to find when was my M1 made??

Plainfield Carbines

Plainfield Carbines are interchangable with USGI parts unlike Universal, in the 60's and 70's they were the two companies that made M1 Carbines. The Plainfield is the best as they were made using surplus machines and dies from the USGI contractor, Quality Hardware. The Plainfields came in 3 configurations, M1 standard stock, M1 with a colapsing stock and, a M2 version for folks who wanted class 3 and law enforcement.

Hundreds of thousands of these handy carbines went to South Korea as a foreign aid package. To my knowledge they're still warehoused for future need.

"...Wolf ammo are they okay to use??..." Yep, but it's not the greatest ammo. Non-reloadable brass. FMJ's only.
My PMC Plainfield(Iver Johnson bought them and continued making them until 1993) likes Speer 110 grain HP's with IMR4227 and regular small rifle primers. 13.5 to 15.0(compressed). Never had to change any parts in the 30 or so years I've had it either. Uses a 30 round mag with no fuss too. It'll shoot circles around any standard Mini-14 with ease.

You mean "steel case", not 'brass', right?

You guys up there in the Great White North aren't getting brass case Wolf in 30 Carbine, are you?

Hi,

Just would like to say well done to you and now it's time to work toward procuring a U.S. Rifle Caliber .30, M1!

1st time out..

Hi guys I was able to finally shoot my M1 carbine and man she is fun to shoot:D:Dit was my 1st time shooting an m1 so i was not sure what to expect and she was pretty accurate at 15yds too..here is pic of target at 15yds with wolf ammo..I did have 3 jams but i think its either the mag or the wolf ammo..:D My kid admiring his future rifle;).

Congrats on the M1 carbine, I like my little carbine too. I swapped the metal handgaurd for a milsurp walnut one, I'm also tempted to grab a paratrooper stock but I'm holding off.

PS: I like your framed document, we have more in common than you'd think!

and don't let anyone rag on you for using a .30 carbine. ballistics are pretty close to 357 mag and nobody ever sneers and a 357. the carbine just needs a hollow point bullet. If I found somebody willing to swap a 10/22 for a plainfield I would do it all day long. 10/22's are like $180 at wallyworld.
