Yes, I took the plunge and bought one of these rifles. It's a Walnut stock, reciever, bolt and magazine all match. Dated 1941. Has the troop tag, though I haven't looked at it yet. Very clean and bright bore, of course. All for $230 at the local gun show. I'll have pics up later. How'd I do?

Alright. Pictures for your viewing enjoyment. Man, I'm an awful photographer:

Great rifle.

I find that the Swiss ammo shoots very well in the K31. Yours looks like a nice rifle.

Lots of folks shoot them in Swiss Rifle or Vintage Rifle matches. At Camp Perry last year all three guys on my firing point were firing K31s during the Springfield/Vintage Rifle match. Lots of them on the firing line.

I'm thinking about scoping one of mine. Killed a doe with one last year. Won the Texas Vintage Rifle Championship with a K31 and Swiss GP11.

Thanks, Squidward. :neener: Hard to take a picture of something lying on the floor without getting your toes in the shot. Anyway, I just spent some time cleaning my new K31 and there wasn't a whole lot of gunk in it. The action was very clean, it was mostly the bore where the grease was. I just ran some dry patches through till they came clean. Cleaned around the firing pin in the bolt and cleaned the chamber with some q-tips. One strange thing I noticed was that the gunk in the bore came out a greenish color..? Isn't cosmoline supposed to be orange?

PS I couldn't seem to afford any GP11 at the time, but I did buy a box of Prvi Partisan SP ammo for the rifle.

Good job Ohio! I bought my K-31 about 2+ years ago and love it. Just wish I had more $$$ for ammo and more time to shoot it. Once you have taken it out for a "test drive" you will not regret buying one.

Yeah, yeah so maybe my room isn't the cleanest place in the world. :neener:

This is actually the most I've ever spent on a gun, believe it or not. I do hope to get some GP11 for it at some point, might order it from AIM or something. How's the Prvi Partizan shoot in these rifles?

The k31's haven't been dipped in cosmoline like alot of military surplus, what you're swabbing out is just grease and the usual shooting residue.

Very nice score!! Spend the $$ and get some GP11 ammo.
Put her on sand bags, and enjoy what she gives you back.
I'd bet if you had front and rear bags, you will have no problem
doing sub MOA all day long with her.

Have you checked under the buttplate for a tag? A bit like an easter egg hunt. Some have them, some don't.

Mine were sighted in on the left corner of the front sight, a bit high at 100yd.

You're going to enjoy getting to know each other, but I'd advise wearing a hat if you don't want divots out of your skull. Don't have to worry about corrosive ammo, as they never made any for the K31

When I bought the gun, I knew there was a tag under the buttplate, which was definitely a selling point. Last night, I removed the plate, and lo and behold, there was a tag. It's written in pencil and was kind of hard to read, but I believe the name of the original owner was Fritz something or other. It looks like "1912" is written on it too. Maybe the year Fritz was born? On the back it says "Kar. (serial number)" Any tips on deciphering the tags?

Oh, and if they didn't dip the rifles in cosmoline, what kept them from corroding after 60+ years?

I do plan on buying some GP11 when I can, but spending $230 at once kinda wiped me out...lol. I look forward to getting to know my new (to me) rifle! :D

I think they were stored fairly well and the swiss maintenance routine had the issued soldies pretty much rubbing the entire gun with grease. Out of my 3 through 2 did have some light rust on parts of them.

Thanks for the link about the tags. I believe the rifle was owned by Fritz Zumbach (sp?) born in 1912. I think he was a Fusilier, but I'm not sure. I don't think there's an address on the tag. I think "Nebeme" is written on it, which sounds like a city or something. Anyone know anything about this?

I just noticed something curious about my rifle. On the stock, I saw a tiny mark on it in the shape of a cross in a shield. I assume this is an original Swiss marking, though I've heard nothing about these in my research on these fine rifles. Does this mean anything in particular?
