OK, as long as we are fantisizing about it...

How would you cast the lead and supporting roles for film versions of these books? It does not have to be top box office stars, just how do you picture these characters and what big name or no name actors would best play them?

Is Angelina Jolie too old to play Ranya?

I have mental pictures of all of these characters, but haven't found corresponding actors to match yet.

Covering all the titles we talked about, I'm sure there would be room somewhere for.....G. Gordon Liddy, Olie North, Mel Gibson, that one "Simon and Simon" guy who is really pro-gun, "Magnum PI", Me ;) , then of course the authors of all the books would have to be fit into good roles...or lacking any acting skill at all, just be there somewhere, so the in the know crowd can say..."Look, there is John Ross drinking coffee" or whatever. :D Also needless to say, all the scenes with firearms involved would HAVE to be perfect....for example no pistols that hold 16 rounds shooting more than 30 before a reload. (Die Hard 2.)

Henry Bowman in my mind is about 6 foot tall lean ( not bulked up) dark headed with piercing blue eyes with a squint and tick like Clint Eastwood,a gaze filled with knowledge and sorrow and kindness all mixed into one.. Or think the eyes of Henry Founda. Eyes you can't forget.

No beautiful people. Actors that have that normal look to them. It would have to be the acting that makes the character not the looks. We would want them to be like us.

I think that casting the secondary characters would be as important as the leads. I would use unknown actors for the leads and fill in the supporting characters with seasoned types.

And when it comes to UC, I guess we would have to release it straight to DVD. Either that or have bathroom breaks for the 12 hour movie that it is going to be. BTW, I guess we have to cut just a "little" from the book to get an R rating. :D

A good director can tell you what is happening or happened without showing it to you on the screen. There is no subject matter in UC that could not be translated onto the screen with an R rating, nor EFAD that need be more than a PG-13.

I would show some of Henry Bowmans childhood then alot could be flashbacks and such. Show Congressional debate and show the moonbats real arguments and shrillness. Yeah I would love to do it.

Now lets get real. If hollywood was making such a film it would have some poor enviromentalist getting her house raided and killed because they thought she was a terrorist because they looked at her library records. Never mind those firearm records those are just dandy. :cuss:

One other thing:

Does anyone else get wicked cravings for a cheeseburger with fresh, hot fries and a big, tall chocolate malt while reading UC with its many descriptions of Henry eating such a meal??

:D :D :D

I really liked both books. Stickjockey, I'd loan you my copy of EFaD since I'm also in P-town, but I'd rather see Matt get your money. :D Besides, I just found the excerpts of Domestic Enemies, and might want to go back and refer to EFaD....

My opinion? Both are very different stories with different appeals, but similarly important messages. I liked the female lead character in EFaD, and yes, this book had more momentum behind it.

And while UC was a little long, I wallowed in it and was sad to turn the last page. I admit I was tempted to skip through some of the side-plots involving Henry's uncle or the stunt flying only because the subject matter interested me a bit less...but would be geek heaven for those who are into that thing, and a further readership draw. The sidestory about the ghetto was perhaps one of the most significant of all of them. John Ross has made it easy for me to recommend this book to people with many interests.

And for the record, I see Henry Bowman as being more the Kevin Spacey type. Not super hunky, but more everyman, but with a twinkle in his eye. Maybe Sam Neill. As much as I love the guy from "Office Space" and "Band of Brothers", I pictured Henry to be a bit older when the story was in full-swing.

Angelina Jolie? She could pull off Ranya. But most Hollywood superstars are members of the Gun Control crowd, because it's "good PR."

Angelina Jolie? Poster child for the UN? *[Buzzer noise here]* Wrong answer!

But how about Laura Prepon? Cute, redhead, and pro-gun!

Scuze me while I stop the drool....

Claire Danes handled that .45 nicely in "Romeo and Juliet".. ;)

Two words: Molly Ringwald...... :)

Did I mention I like redheads?
