The K31 has been a rifle that I've wanted to own for the last 10 years or so. I have never got around to purchasing one though, and over the years the prices have continued to go up.

I was at one of my LGS yesterday, and they had two of them on the rack. One was in pristine condition, but had a beech wood stock, and some of the screws were not original. I passed on this one.

The other had a walnut stock, and was also in excellent condition, minus several dings in the stock. It also had the original leather sling as well.

I haggled with them for awhile, and ended up getting the one with the walnut stock for $260. I have not seen any K31's for that price in a long time. They are usually listed for $350+, and some are in worse condition.

My particular rifle was manufactured in 1944 based on the S/N. The bluing is pretty good on it still, and the bore and the internals are pristine. The stock has some dings in it, but doesn't appear to have any repairs or cracks in it anywhere. It is also an all numbers matching gun.

I ordered up some ammo for it and will be taking it out to shoot sometime soon. Overall, I was really happy to finally purchase a gun that I have wanted for such a long time.

Congrats! I have two of them, great rifles. You have to get a bayonet and scabbard for it now, while they're still available. You think the rifle is nice, wait 'til you see a bayonet!

But the stocks - seems like every K31 out there has a buggered up stock. I think it has something to do with being stacked while in snow, and something about the soldiers boots too. Don't know if it was part of drilling, or they kicked the rifles to knock snow off their boots, or what the deal is. Kind of a hallmark of K31's, metal in outstanding condition, but with beat up wood.

If you need any reloading advice for the K31 shoot me a PM. This past summer was mostly dedicated to learning the finer points of loading for that rifle. I can save you a couple headaches
