I recently moved from Oregon to Washington which meant going through the hassle of applying for my new CHL. Well I got it in the mail yesterday and noticed something that is extremely annoying. For some reason Washington has decided to use a CHL that is noticibly physically larger than other states. This means it doesnt fit in my wallet in one of the ID slots or even the credit card slots. It is so large that I have to carry it in the bills section thus increasing the chance that it will get lost. Wondering for those of you that have WA chl's and have had them for a while, has Washington always done this or at some point did they use a plastic card like a drivers license?

No reason to be upset. Just be happy that you have a CPL.

Anyway, after having the license folded and laminated, I just trimmed on the edges to make it fit..voila:)

Fold it right above the line that says "The person described hereon is licensed to carry concealed pistols as described by law until the expiration date shown above"

Laminate it while folded and trim it. That makes it only slightly larger than a credit card, and all the pertinent info is on the front, and all the issuing agency info will be on the back.

I made mind slightly bigger than credit card.

Just curious, does OR CHL has photo on the card?

Yes my Oregon one has a picture and is printed on a card just like a drivers license. I now live in WA just didn't change my profile on here yet. But I still have CHL's for both states. My new Hampshire one is also on a drivers license card, but does not have a picture.

THe WA CPL is a piece of paper. That's why we have to laminate it. $55 for appliaction and we get a piece of paper.

South Dakota's Concealed Carry permits are not huge, but just annoyingly bigger than a standard drivers license/credit card, resulting in a card thats slightly awkward to carry....but I can put up with it!

Washington's permit has been that way for years... Its all I remember my dad ever having. Do what NavyLT said- I see about three permits a day and 80% (and mine) are folded and laminated... (one guy had his permit displayed in a clear protector hung from his neck... like a cruise ship ID... only gun sale I ever had to refuse...)

P.S. It helps your local gun dealer too- reading some of those washed cards is a pain in the arse! A few had to do the wait period because the expiration was worn away.

Welcome to Washington :) It could be worse-

I think the perfed sheet you tear it off from says not to fold the CPL but I'm not sure. I ignored that crap and trimmed it, folded it (directly in half) and laminated it. It is a stupid design.

You should have seen the CPL they sent my wife. They misspelled her last name and put white out over it. It looks pretty crappy. Oh well it is WA state after all.

The Texas permit is the same size as the driver's license. If you keep it in the money side of your wallet, don't spend it in the liquor store......chris3

Back in the early 90's when I had a Washington State CPL, I remember it being about the size of a credit card and easily fit in my wallet.

That is pretty silly of them considering they churn out driver's licenses and could churn out a carry permit using the same dimensions.

TN driver's licenses are landscape with the carry permits being portrait. It makes them easy to differentiate.

Montana used to have a permit that was 4"x6" or so, and the instructors in the required class told us to hit the local Kinko's and have them to do a reduced copy of the permit and laminate it. Now they issue driver's license sized permits.

When I lived in WA it baffled me that their permit had a thumb print on it as I remember, but no picture. Didn't make any sense to me at all, unless the cops had fingerprint id capability with them.
