So I picked up a 1952 marked Tula built SKS (it has had it's first set of serial numbers stamped out so it was refurbed at some point), for an amazing deal and in part i got the price because the previous owner kinda ruined it by mounting one of those picatinny rail receiver covers on it and didn't fork over the original when he sold it.:cuss:

So now I have a great rifle with a not so great sighting set up. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I could get a plain receiver cover. It does not have to be original or anything like that but I would like one without the ugly rail blocking my sights. From my understanding there ARE differences (but very minor) in the covers of the rifles depending on country of origin. If anyone can recommend and point me in the direction of a good, plain receiver cover I would be ever so grateful.:)

I checked the websites you guys listed and recommended (thank you by the way) and have found quite a few Chinese covers. Nothing specifically says that they won't work with a Russian made gun and they're cheap enough that I'll be buying one to see if it is compatible.

I think I have one at the house just sitting. I'll check tonight.

The Numrich (Gun Parts Corp) part # for the rear cover is the same for all the rifles listed - Russian, Yugo & Chinese so if you can find one locally or for less $, go for it.

I have one in my hand I will never use. PM me with info if you want to buy it.

It's not a precision-fitted part, so a receiver cover from pretty much any SKS should fit.

Thank you for the offer however, I have found that the Chinese cover fits just fine. That was a bit easier than i expected, thank you all for the information.

FWIW, Russian SKS receiver covers indicate the arsenal and date. A lot of replacement (usually Chinese) do not and are unmarked.
