Took me a little over a year and switching between a few stocks before I was satisfied with it. This will be going to my boy when he gets older. Marbled English walnut, Neidner checkered steel buttplate, Timney trigger, German Mauser receiver, Shilen barrel, hand checkered, Gaboon ebony tip. .243 WCF

That is mighty nice work, headoftheholler!!! There is Nothing like the satisfaction of turning an old military rifle into a functional work of art. I am normally the first to howl in anguish at someone who wants to sporterize an old military rifle. But when the end result is something this well done I find it somewhat rather more difficult to complain.... Very nice work. Let us know how it shoots

Absolutely gorgeous and perfect. You could be a pro. Did you start with a pre-inlet stock (or did you do it all by hand...?)

.
An absolutely top-drawer effort and execution restoring that modified Mauser.

Just gorgeous.

I've said these kinds of things before when you've showed us your work.

WANT.

:)

I like 99.9999% of it. Is the trigger guard screw odd or hard to find? A rifle of this quality surely deserves good looking screws. Or is a built in flaw to insure a degree less than perfection?:neener:

Very, very nice! I particularly like the Beuhler style safety. A lot of people use the 3 position Win Mod. 70 style safety on a custom Mauser, but I like the old leaf style myself. Excellent work all around!

should have posted NSFW cuz that is some serious sexiness :)

Makes me want to pull the tupperware off my Mauser build and get some good walnut...

My friend, that is truly a BEAUTIFUL classic. I'm drooling and having visions of pack strings in the high county, alpine meadows, African bush, campfires in safari camp, all around the 1890s to 1910.

Sorry it got me carried away.

I think Paul Jaeger would smile if he could see that rifle. On the other hand he may be looking over your shoulder.
On the other hand, headlftheholler may in fact be Paul Jaeger incarnate in another life???

You got a better theory on how he keeps doing this stuff?? :D
